Grandfather arrested for assault of 9yo

The man who is also a village court magistrate from the Bupichupeu - Lelemadih Local Level Government was arrested in Manus on Wednesday.

Acting Provincial Police Commander Senior Inspector David Yapu said the victim is the accused’s own granddaughter who is nine years old.

It is alleged she was sexually touched by the 44-year-old man on April 9 while she was sleeping in one of the rooms in the family home.

This follows another arrest of a refugee today over allegations of sexual assault.

PPC Yapu called on parents not to allow their daughters to come into town and be lured by refugee for money and other items.

He issued the call today after 28 year-old Muhammad Hussain of Pakistan was formally arrested for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl on Friday, March 3 at the Kohai Lodge, at Ward 2 in Lorengau town.

Yapu said the victim is only 10 yrs old what the refugee has done to her is unrespectable and a disgrace to the community and society.

Asylum seeker on rape charge

The 31-year-old man from Sri Lanka (identity withheld) was arrested over the weekend by police at the Regional processing centre at Lombrum.

The alleged incident took place on Jan 17 at the Harbour side Hotel between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

Manus acting provincial police commander, senior inspector David Yapu, said the victim is 19-years-old (identity withheld.)

It is alleged the defendant booked a room at the hotel where he sexually assaulted the victim.
