Rugby Union

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck still learning rugby

After 10 seasons in the NRL, the former Warriors captain had joined the Blues for the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Tuivasa-Sheck played almost 200 matches in the NRL, captained the Warriors for five seasons and - in 2018 - was named the best player in rugby league's best competition.

But despite months back on the rugby union training paddock, he wasn't quite feeling like a rugby player again just yet.

"I keep telling myself it's not until I lace up and run out in the colours that it's going to feel official.

Big Year For Palais

The train on squad of 30 players started their training on Monday in preparation for two international fixtures this year. Both are qualifiers for the Commonwealth Games and the World Cup.

For the Palais, training is their number one priority. The team needs to get its fitness and strength levels in order, and the techniques right.

Larry said, “Our girls have been quiet for almost three years, due to the global pandemic, so with very minimal time, we will try to make use of it so that the girls are back on track again and ready to attend the tournament.”

Satellite 7s Officials Praised

Chairman Napoleon Mapo praised the efforts of the officials for having a positive impact on the event and the smooth operations of the tournament under the guidance of Tournament Director Paul Joseph.

Joseph said South Fly District made history after hosting three consecutive Rugby Union 7s Tournaments, a first for Western Province.

He said the team will be back later in the year to officiate the JC cup, when all teams meet again for the urban Satellite Rugby Union 7s challenge in Daru around April 2022.

Satellite 7s Embrace 5-Year Plan

Tournament Director, Paul Joseph said the set-up of the plan is vital, as it will pave way to create programs to develop rugby union talents in the province.

Joseph who is officiating the tournaments in South Fly District, with games played at the local and community level has seen the need to take on a proper plan to develop the code.

Ferguson set to join former Wallabies coach Cheika in cross-code switch

Foxsports.com.au can reveal Ferguson will join former Wallabies coach Michael Cheika, who is the director of rugby at NEC Green Rockets in the Japan Top League.

Ferguson’s management is expected to get the paperwork to confirm his deal within the next 24 hours.

What’s more, former Wallaby Scott Fardy has recently arrived in Japan, where he will be the defence coach at the Japanese club.

It’s an intriguing twist given Fardy was unceremoniously dropped by Cheika, where he played his last Test against France at the Stade de France in 2016.

Williams shoots down reports of move back to league

The 32-year-old Williams' playing future has been the subject of intense speculation virtually every year since he walked out on a five-year contract with rugby league's Canterbury Bulldogs in 2008 to play union in France.

Williams was forced into clarifying his future after a former Sydney Roosters player told an Australian radio station at the weekend that he would join the club in August after the Auckland Blues' season ended.

"I love being a part of the Blues Rugby team & All Blacks," Williams wrote on his Twitter account on Monday.

Sonny Bill Williams will 'stay with rugby union' - Anthony Mundine

"I feel he'll stay in rugby," Mundine, a former NRL player turned professional boxer, said.

"As great as rugby league is, rugby is the world game. Lots of countries play it all over Europe and South Africa, it's massive. I went to South Africa to watch him play a [Super Rugby] game and they had fans waiting outside the hotel room. It's a big thing. It's the biggest sport over there. It's crazy."
