Digicel Cup matches set for tomorrow

At the Lae Rugby League Grounds, defending premiers Snax Lae Tigers will play host to the Kroton Hela Wigmen. Kick-off is at 3pm.

Three matches will be played in the Highlands with a starting time of 2pm.

The PRK Mendi Muruks will welcome the NCDC Port Moresby Vipers to Mendi while across to Minj, Giru Waghi Tumbe will lock horns with the visiting Bintangor Goroka Lahanis.

At Wabag will be the showdown between the EPG Enga Mioks and the Agmark Rabaul Gurias.

Wins to Dwellers and Madang FC

The first match of the triple header at Laiwaden Oval in Madang yesterday saw Besta PNG United FC settle for a 2-2 draw with Buang FC.

In the match that followed, Lae City Dwellers FC claimed the 2017 minor premiership after defeating Huawei PS United FC 3-2.

Meanwhile, to the main game, home side Madang FC held on to beat Vitis Yamaros FC 2-1.

In the first match of the triple header yesterday in Port Moresby, Dwellers def. Besta PNG United FC 2-0. In the match that followed, Buang def, Madang FC 1-0.

In main game of the day, PS United def. Vitis Yamaros FC 5-0.

Wins to Muruks, Tigers, Tumbe and Gurias

In the double header played in Port Moresby this afternoon, PRK Mendi Muruks def. NCDC Vipers 10-8 and Lae Snax Tigers def. Kroton Hela Wigmen 20-16.

Up in Minj, Waghi Tumbe def. EGP Enga Mioks 16-14, while across in Kokopo, the Agmark Rabaul Gurias def. Bintangor Goroka Lahanis 24-12.

Digicel Cup double header in POM

PNG National Rugby League Competition Manager, Stanley Hondina said the first game to kick off at 1.30pm will see the NCDC Vipers host PRK Mendi Muruks.

Both teams lost their opening clashes last weekend and will be vying to register their first competition points of the season.

The second match of the day is between the reigning premiers Lae Snax Tigers (who had a comfortable win over Agmark Rabaul Gurias) and Kroton Hela Wigmen.

“This shapes up to be the match of the round,” said Hondina.

POMRFL into round two

In games played yesterday in the U20 men’s, Hawks def. Tarangau 8-0, Hohola Flies def. Defence 6-4, Butterflies def. Paga Panthers 14-0.

The only A Grade men’s fixture saw Hohola Flies beat Defence 22-8.

Round two games will be completed tomorrow on field two at the National Football Stadium.

Albert, Wera named in 20-man squad

Furthermore, the experienced Adex Wera makes a return to the side that will take on the Easts Tigers at home at the National Football Stadium this Sunday at 3pm.

These are the only two changes in the 20-man extended squad for the round two clash that was named this afternoon by SP Hunters assistant coach, Nigel Hukula.

“Wellington will make his debut in the SP Hunters colours for the first time this weekend. He comes in place of Ismael Balkawa,” said Hukula.
