Digicel Cup Round 9 Preview

And the Vipers come under the pump to maintain their early season winning form.

Matches will be played in five different venues.

On Saturday, Minj will host Mt. Hagen Eagles and PRK Gulf Isou, Kimbe Cutters and Bintangor Lanahis meet in Kimbe and competition leaders Agmark Gurias hosts JPG Waghi Tumbe in Kokopo.

While Lae will host a double header - Lae Snax Tigers vs EPG Mioks and PRK Muruks meet Moni Plus NCDC.

Port Power Faces Stiff Test

In this weekend’s Round 5 matches, Powers will be chasing after another victory. They are the “new-kids-on-the-block” passionately established this year by the students from the Port Moresby Technical College to test their AFL skills.

Power with unknown quantity with an untapped wealth of football talent, but they have made an impressive start to the season, winning four games in a row to remain unbeaten and lead the ladder together with the Eagles who also have yet to taste defeat.

Isou prepare to defend placing

While it’s been a rollercoaster ride for the some of the benchmark teams since the 2022 Digicel Cup season started, least expected the Gulf franchise PRK Gulf Isou have maintained their undefeated run record (4 from 4)  so far in the country’s  national rugby league competition.

This Sunday their resolve will be put to the test when they face the might of  5th place and one of the foundation clubs in the competition Moni Plus NCDC Port Moresby Vipers in the clash of a local derby at 1pm.

More Great Rivalries in Round 4

The main game at NFS on Sunday between Isou and Mioks promises to be a blockbuster with Mioks aiming to turn the tables on Isou after they were beaten by 2 points 16-18 in their corresponding match last year. Former Mioks playmaker and Captain Roger Laka who joined Isou last season as a player, had a big hand in that win against his old team.

This time Laka will be watching with interest from the coach’s bench. His simple instruction is respect the systems, follow the process and execute well. He said defense is key.

Teams Look To Keep Form

The 4 teams have remained undefeated since the PNGNRLC kicked off two weeks ago but could face some stiff opposition today.

In the main game of the triple header at Santos National Footage ball stadium on Sunday 2022 Digicel Cup this Sunday Wigmen will face off with the might of Moni Plus NCDC Vipers who are coming off back to back wins over Gurias and Eagles.
