Kaugel Bridge collapses

The bridge went down when a truck transporting a crusher tried to cross it.

The truck and machinery belongs to Covec PNG Ltd, the construction company which was awarded the multi-million-kina road project between Tambul and Mendi.

Local youth Enoch Steven said the crusher was to be offloaded just after crossing the bridge where it will be stationed for the road project.

“But it happened that the bridge collapsed together with the floater and the crusher some metres away from where it was supposed to be stationed,” said Steven.

Mr. Sitapai gave this assurance following the comment from Usino-Bundi MP Anton Yagama in a daily newspaper urging the Works Dept and the National Government to immediately fix the deteriorating highway.

MP Yagama expressed concern that the travelling public including business houses in Madang had been seriously affected due to the poor road condition.

Roadside markets are winners in B’ville

More good food can be found in these markets which you cannot find at the main town markets around Bougainville.

There are a number of markets from the Selau Constituency right down to Tinputz and the most famous market is located at the Teoposuna plantation, where a lot of cars are going and coming from the Arawa stopover.

Locals in the market have called for support from the government to improve the market facilities like the market buildings and toilets.
