ICAO: Prioritize Aviation

Dr Fang Liu, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) made the call so that there is emphasis on the importance of air transport and national and regional recoveries.

“One important step States can take collectively in this direction would be to strengthen your support for the Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO).”

Dr Liu said this would directly address the current below-world average performance of Pacific Island States in the implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) on Safety and Security.”

Aviation Safety Declared

The Port Moresby Declaration provides a range of strategic priorities and actions to respond to the challenges regarding aviation safety and security performance facing Forum Members impacted by COVID-19.

Dr Fang Liu, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) addressed the RAMM ministers saying: “COVID-19 has severed those connections, and in so doing it has hindered your core logistical capacities for a return to economic growth post-pandemic.”

RAMM: Pacific Connectivity

Chaired by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Sekie Agisa, the focus of the meeting was on strengthening regional collaboration for aviation safety and security.

Discussions were centred around the importance of aviation and the immediate need to adapt long term policies to combat the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also in attendance was Minister for Transport & Infrastructure, William Samb.
