Professor Ian Olver

Want to reduce the risk of getting cancer?

This was one of the main topics discussed during the Men’s Cancer Awareness Workshop earlier this week.

Renowned Australian oncologist, Professor Ian Olver, said poor eating habits increase your risk of cancer in various parts of the body.

“Poor eating habits can also contribute to weight gain and being overweight or obese increase your risk of cancer.”

Prof Olver says improving diet can be as simple as trying to eat more fruit and vegetables, adding that processed food can increase ones chance of developing cancer.

1 in 10 deaths caused by cancer

Professor Ian Olver, a cancer researcher, Bioethicist and Medical Oncologist in Australia has revealed this during the Mens Cancer Awareness Workshop on Monday at the Yacht Club.

He said that at least 1 in 3 cancers cases are preventable.

“The number of deaths could be reduced significantly by choosing a cancer smart lifestyle and that there is a simple steps that can be taken to minimize the risk of getting cancer,” Prof Olver said.

Prof Olver says finding cancer early improves your chances of successful treatment and long term survival.
