Kassman congratulated

He recently replaced Gerea Aopi, who has been at the helm of the position with distinction.

Richard Kassman is the director corporate affairs, Total E&P PNG Limited; an active member of the PNGEITI Multi Stakeholder Group (MSG) and he was vice president of the Chamber during the time of his appointment.

Kassman represents Total PNG Ltd in the PNGEITI MSG which oversees the implementation of the Global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Papua New Guinea.

Former Secretary warns Government of debt

Isaac Lupari said this will benefit the generations to come, and deliver tangible outcomes for Papua New Guineans.

Mr Lupari said the challenge for governments is to get the debt balance right.

“In the short term, there are times where governments need to borrow to sustain services. But this can never be a long-term measure, as the example of Zimbabwe and others has shown.

“The debt mix must be carefully balanced and weighted towards investment in productive assets that allow our economy to grow.

“Today in Papua New Guinea we are at a crossroad.

Land Groups Get Assistance

In the past registered land groups were unsuccessful because they did not work together.

Kokopo MP Emil Tammur made this call on the weekend when handing over land mobilisation funds to three land groups in Kokopo/Vunamami Urban LLG and Bitapaka LLG, under the district Land Mobilisation program.

He said if people wanted to access land they must work together, as such arrangement are recognised by governments.

Mr Tammur handed over K50,000 to Bailu Land Group to complete the group's acquisition process.

K10,000 Support For Red Feather Fundraiser

The funding goes towards its annual Red Feather Fundraiser program.

The Red Further fundraiser is an annual event staged to mobilise funds and resources to run programs and support services that the Centre has.  

The Centre’s General Manager Bernard Ayeko said, “It is through our partners that we are able to run this organisation, and BSP has been one of our fundamental supporter for a long time.”

Pawut defend NIPG

The recent announcement by the member for Namatanai and Forest Minister, Walter Schnaubelt to undertake a criminal investigation into the alleged misuse of K400 million Lihir Royalty Funds has not come down well with the New Ireland Provincial administrator.

In a statement, the administrator said he rejects the claim by the open member, defending that the New Ireland Provincial Administration complied with all the public service processes when acquitting public funds.

Toroama Focused On Joint Consultations

He said these joint consultations can put forward Bougainville’s position reflected in the 97 per cent referendum vote for independence.

Following a recent meet with Prime Minister James Marape, President Toroama said Bougainville’s independence aspirations will remain steadfast however the Autonomous Bougainville Government will continue to foster collaboration with the National Government to implement the Bougainville Peace Agreement.

Farmers given mini wet mills

The mills will assist them to efficiently process their coffee.

Agriculture and Livestock Minister John Simon officiated at this launching at the Nondugl

Council Chamber grounds recently.

The groups include Waka, Numkussy, Opka, Kumbal Kopong and Konum coffee cooperatives.

Minister Simon told the gathering at Nondugl that they did not need an educated person to go and tell them to attend to their coffee gardens, but that the knowledge and skills on how to till the land was already with them.

Regional Interpretation Workshop completed

The revised National Youth Policy was launched in September 2020.

Following that the NYDA embarked on regional interpretation workshops to create awareness on the policy at the subnational levels.

The aim of the workshop was to create awareness on the new policy direction, mobilise youth stakeholders at the subnational levels to form an alliance for action, align programs accordingly with the policy direction.

The Highlands and Southern Regional interpretation workshops were held last year, with recommendations from stakeholders collated.

Makia Village Launches Resource Centre

From the Unggai-Bena District of Eastern Highlands Province, the MCDC received praised from local MP Benny Allen, for its achievement.

The launching took place in Makia village recently.

Coffee Industry Corporation CIC General Manager for Research & Growers Services Division, Dr Mark Kenny, congratulated MCDC for initiating a group that would address the people’s needs holistically.

Dr Kenny said, “This is the start for many good things to come to you but the road ahead will need your commitment and hard work.”

NAC clarifies report

The project is part of a series of impact aviation projects implemented under the Civil Aviation Development Investment Program or CADIP.

The National Airports Corporation was clarifying the status on the development of the airport following a report on the media that works on the Mendi airport is on hold.

It says works is continuing with an accomplishment of 60% physical progress to date.

The Aviation state agency has also clarified that there are no landowner disputes and the redevelopment on the airport is carried out within declared aerodrome area.
