Tari, Goilala want lawful solutions

Last week, leaders of both Tari and Goilala met at the Badili Police Station to urge their people not to take the law into their own hands but to let the law enforcers to bring to justice those who are involved in the latest killing of a Tari man at 2 Mile Hill on 30th of July.

The leaders of the Taris & Goilalas said the retaliations and killings on both sides had gone for too long and it has marred the reputation of both ethnic groups, and they want it to end.

PMGH gets timely help

The gifts consisted of 100 water dispensers and 38 water hens from Friends of POMGEN, a charity organization assisting the in-patients and health workers at Port Moresby General Hospital.

Vice President for CPNGFA, Billy Lin says they operate as a charity entity.

He says that Covid-19 has affected businesses but the Chinese community were willing to help as much as they can when the call was sent out.

A positive response was received and in one day they were able to raise K80,000. 

Fuel prices increase for August

The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) announced the new retail fuel prices for this month, which take effect today.                    

These price increases are mainly attributed to the average increase in oil prices, and the depreciation of the PNG kina against the US dollar during the month of July, 2020.

Controller confirms 11th COVID-19 case for PNG

The latest confirmed patient, is a 26 year old female that resides in Port Moresby and is a close contact of Case 10.

The result was returned from the CPHL Laboratory in Port Moresby at 6:30pm on the 25th of June.

Deputy Controller, Dr Paison Dakulala reiterated that "people will not know that they have COVID-19, and may move around and most importantly being in an infectious state. This drives the importance of staying home when you have flu like symptoms, cough, body aches and fever.

10th COVID-19 case confirmed

This is PNG’s tenth case of COVID-19. She works at the PNG Defence Force at Murray Barracks but lives off-site in a shared accommodation. She was tested as part of the ongoing mass testing of the staff at the barracks following the announcement of the 9th patient on June 20. Her positive PCR test result was received today from the Queensland Health Laboratory in Brisbane, Australia.

Load shedding causes power outages: PPL

In a statement PNG Power says the load shedding is to repair ageing equipment at Boroko sub-station.

PPL says the recent introduction of NiuPower into the Port Moresby grid has led to load shedding exercise due to lack of compensating reactive power to meet demand.

Negotiations with NiuPower to adjust their generator settings have seen a reduction in load shedding from two feeders to one per day, as well as reducing load shedding hours from seven to five.

BSP backs 2020 Operation Open Heart

Present at the event was OOH program’s first patient to undergo operation heart surgery on Sunday 16th February, 2020, was Faustina Jerome (18) accompanied by her father - Linus Jerome and elder sister- Fatima Jerome.

Faustina is from a remote area of Dasima in the Esa’ala district of Milne Bay Province. She completed her grade 8 in 2017 but was taken out of school due to her heart condition.

Suspect killed in POM shootout

The incident started from Gordon’s KMC all the way to RH Hypermart gate.

The acting NCD/Central police commander, Anthony Wagambie Jnr, said Boroko Criminal Investigation Division (CID) had followed intelligence reports and had gone to KMC Gordon’s where there was a planned armed robbery.

“The armed gang were using a white sedan; investigations will reveal if it is a stolen motor vehicle or not because there were a number of registration plates in the vehicle,” he said.

Outstanding turn up at PNG’s film festival

The public flooded the Festival for the opening night film Power Meri, a documentary on the PNG Orchids journey to the 2017 Women’s Rugby League World Cup.

The screening was followed by a panel discussion with PNG NRL Team Leader and PNG Orchids 2017 Captain, Cathy Neap, as well as Karen Haive, Department of Community Development and Religion, Susan Ferguson, UNWomen Country Representative, and Stella Rumbam, World Vision PNG Operations Manager.

Feast of celebrations for POM residents

Live bands, traditional dances and singsing, artefacts and food display were featured throughout the day.

The streets of the nation’s capital were a sea of black, red and gold as residents flocked into the designated venues to be part of the nationwide celebrations.

While Port Moresby’s main independence celebration venue; the Paga Ring road, was quiet with families out and about winding down the long weekend, Unagi Oval and Jack Pidik were very much alive and buzzing with activities.

Both venues were packed to capacity.
