POM Men’s softball resumes this weekend

In the A grade division, Yokomo and Gazelle will be the game to watch with both sides boasting plenty of experience with former and current national players.

For the B graders, the game between Bears and PNG Power showdown should provide plenty of action with both sides fighting to secure first spot on the ladder.

The Port Moresby Women's Softball Association also resumes its competition and will start round 9 games tomorrow.

Men’s softball comp on two-week break

They are now on a two-week break for the Christmas and New Year period.

The current competition points ladder:

A grade: Yokomo (8), Defence (7), Brown Eagles (7), United Brothers (6), Gazelle (6), PNG Power (5), Saints (4), Manolos (3), Bears (2).

B grade: Brown Eagles (12), United Brothers (8), Yokomo (6), Bears (6), PNG Power (6), Gazelle (6), Stingers (6), Saints (2), Defence (2) Manolos (0).

The competition will resume on January 8, 2017, at the Bisini Grounds.

POMSA completes second week of games

In the A grade men’s results, Brown Eagles soared to a 13-2 win over newcomers Saints while defending champions Yokomo thumped Bears 9-0.

The match between United Brothers and PNG Power was contested more closely with Brothers shutting down the Power boys 4-3.

Defence had an easy win forfeiting Manolos.

Gazelle also picked up points having the bye.

Down to the B grade division, Defence def. Manolos 13-8, United Brothers def. PNG Power 7-4, Gazelle def. 6-5, Brown Eagles def. Saints 15-7 and Yokomo def. Bears 8-5.

Men’s softball completes round one of season proper

In the A grade matches, Gazelle had an easy win forfeiting Manolos.

In what is always a highly entertaining match, PNG Power edged out their brothers from Matupit, Brown Eagles with a 3-2 victory.

The young guns of Defence led by Kepas Mormor and Chris Sael Paak Jr. led their side to a 7-4 win over the much more experienced Bears outfit winning 7-4.

United Brothers started off their 2016/2017 campaign on a high beating last season’s winners Yokomo 4-3.

Newcomers, Saints had the bye.

Pom Men’s softball comp to start this weekend

This comes after three weekends of pre-season games that ended yesterday with the grand final that saw Yokomo edge out PNG Power 6-5.

President of the POMSA, Tony Daple said the A and B grade games will run up until one week before Christmas before going on a break.

He said the competition will resume again in January.

He added with the entry of new club Saints, there are now nine A grade teams. In the B grade division, 10 teams have confirmed their participation for this season.

Daple said the draws for this weekend will be sent out during the week.

Yokomo win pre-season grand final

Yokomo led comfortably for most of the match but were given a scare in the last inning when the Power boys snuck in 4 quick runs.

But Yokomo’s pitcher, Clifford Kouse, guided his side home to ensure the win.

In the preliminary finals in the morning, PNG Power edged out United Brothers 2-1 while Yokomo beat Defence 8-6.

In the third and fourth playoff, Defence defeated United Brothers 7-3.

POMSA president, Tony Daple, said the three weekends of pre-season games had gone well and is looking forward to season proper, which will start next weekend.  

POM Men’s softball into pre-season finals

The pre-season has run for three weekends to help teams prepare for the 2016/2017 competition which will start straight after.

In the preliminary finals at 9am, PNG Power will play United Brothers on diamond one while Defence take on Yokomo across on diamond two.

The losers of the two games will battle it out for the third and fourth placing at 11:30am.

The winners will advance onto the main game of the day in the grand final that will be played at 2pm.

The last two games will be played on diamond one.
