Police Operations

The police Christmas operations is running alongside a combined Traffic Police and Morobe Land Transport Board operations.

"Overall I am quite satisfied with the way Police Operations was conducted over the weekend.

“I thank all my personnel for their commitment towards their duties over the weekend", says the Lae Metropolitan police commander, Anthony Wagambie junior.

Wagambie says that his personnel are now ready for the New Year celebrations, just a few days away.

Speaking to this newsroom, Metropolitan Superintendent, Perou D’Nranou, says that road blocks and normal vehicles checks will be conducted as per usual.

He warned however that residents need to keep celebrations of any sort off the roads.

“Police will not tolerate any drivers caught drinking and driving, guilty parties will be charged and dealt with accordingly.”

Meantime, N’dranou commended the efforts of all the police personnel, saying his officers have done a great deal to monitor the roads and residents

This comes after NCD Metropolitan Superintendent; Perou N’Dranou announced that the NCD Christmas Operations will be launched at the Five Mile Jack Pidik Park next week Tuesday 19^th December.

The operation will be launched by the Divisional Commander for NCD/ Central, Donald Yamasombi.

The Met Sup has requested for all police personnel to be present in their full attire (Uniforms) during the launch.

This includes Special Services Division, the Dog Unit, and all internal manpower of all units including all reservists in NCD.

The rehearsal was at the Queen Elizabeth park in Mt Hagen today.

This is only part of the 2000 personnel expected to be deployed to the rest of the Highlands region.

Security is of high priority when it comes to elections in the Highlands region as more challenges are expected to rise.

The Chief Secretary to the government, Isaac Lupari, is expected to arrive in the province tomorrow to launch the security operations together with Police Commissioner, Gari Baki.

NCD Police boss Ben Turi said that as usual, people will be allowed to have alcohol during their celebrations but they must be responsible.

Turi confirmed there will not be analcohol ban in order to cut down on black markets in settlements.

“Similar to last year, we allowed alcohol during the festive period and we didn’t experience any serious reports in relation to alcohol consumption.

“During Easter we also allowed alcohol to be taken but with respect to the community and people behaved so we commend the public.

Provincial police commander, Superintendent Tep Puri told PNG Loop he is settling well in his duties in the province.

Puri also commended the efforts of his personnel on ground and says these meetings will ensure a registry of all available logistics is done up.

From this registry Puri will get a general idea of what is needed in terms of logistics vital in the province.

The initial briefs are set to start this week.

PPC Puri tells is yet to visit the provinces police out posts to familiarise himself with the manpower and area of operations.
