Police impersonator intercepted at Bomana college

Derrick Kanawi of East Sepik and Manus parentage was intercepted at around 10am in full police uniform walking into the college gates.

The suspect caught the attention of the guards at the gate after he failed to stand at attention when the police commandant drove by.

Commandant Peter Philip explained that the suspect was stopped and questioned about his identity.

Upon questioning, he revealed that he got the uniform from another serving member alleged to be stationed at the Badili police station.

Police impersonator faces jail time

Henry Mokari from Western Highlands Province was arrested after discharging a Bush-Master Aris A2 Rifle at Gerehu stage one last month. 

Mokari was charged under section 59 of the Firearms Act for discharging a firearm in a residential area without a lawful excuse.

When questioned by the Boroko District Court, Henry Mokari said he is a reserve police officer.

He told the Court that the weapon was left with him by a Senior Sergeant from Gerehu Police Station, because the sergeant was drunk and wanted to go to a settlement.

Police firearm, uniforms found on impersonator

The suspect was armed with the weapon and impersonating police when he was arrested inside a company premise owned by some Asians.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Crimes Victor Isouve said the suspect, 37 year old, Scott Dylan of Tarara village Kieta, was providing security for some Asians when he was arrested inside the company premise near the 6 mile dump.

Detectives attached to the Crimes Directorate at Police Headquarters were tipped off by informants who became suspicious when they saw the armed Bougainvillean man escorting the Asians with the high powered rifle.
