Tsaka challenges Hunters

When giving his address at the PNG Hunters Season Launch on Saturday night PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka shared a few light moments about the formative years of the Hunters program, especially the logistic nightmare of traveling between Port Moresby and Queensland but amazingly never missed a game let alone turn up for away games.

PNGRFL unaware of Gary Lo situation

“We are informed that Gary has returned to PNG but have not been made aware of the circumstances surrounding his departure from England,” Tsaka said.

He said the PNGRFL is enquiring into this with the Rugby League Federation (RFL) and his club as they are concerned about the implications for the future for PNG Rugby League players’ pathways to UK clubs.

Late Ottio’s trust fund deadline extended

The account was scheduled to close at midday yesterday (Jan 18).

PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka said due to the overwhelming response received, the closing date will now be 12 noon, Friday, February 23, 2018.

Individuals, groups and organisations requesting for an extension and who want to deposit their contributions have been the reason for the extension to the Kato Ottio Trust Fund.

Furthermore, Tsaka said the next day will be the pre-season trial match between the SP Hunters and Brisbane Broncos.

PNGRFL warns against unsanctioned events

This is the warning given by PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka when referring to the annual Agmark 9s competition.

PNGRFL has issued a notice to all its affiliated leagues, franchises and officials to refrain from organising and participating in unsanctioned off season competitions.

Chairman Tsaka said affiliates, clubs and officials are required to seek the clearance and sanction of the PNGRFL before organising and participating in such competitions.

Tsaka expected to retain position at AGM

The AGM to be held on February 25, will see the election the chairman’s position and also directors of the four confederates.

Also the presentation of the chairman and confederate directors’ financial reports will be presented to the affiliates.

The directors are, Southern Gwaibo Mairi, Northern’s Russ Kaupa, Highlands’ Joe Tokam and New Guinea Islands’ Horta Bosky.

With Port Moresby hosting three pool matches of the PNG Kumuls World Cup campaign, Tsaka is expected to be voted to maintain stability towards the history making Kumul matches.
