Electricity restored

Only Taurama area is without power supply due to a fault within the Vadavada area.

PNG Power advised its customers in Port Moresby that was a power outage experienced earlier this morning due to a fault on the system.

A transmission line experienced a trip causing Konedobu, Boroko and Kanudi Substations to also go offline.

This affected power supply to Gerehu, Waigani, Hohola and parts of Boroko, Korobosea and Taurama. Supply to the Magi Highway was also affected.

Pom experiencing power outage

PNG Power advised consumers that the outage which started from 8:35am was due to a High Voltage Link burnt off at the Moitaka Power Station.

In a statement, PPL’s Corporate Relations says that they have begun the restoration process and will keep consumers posted regarding this.

Consumers are being told to contact the National Call Centre on 70908000 and 75008000 for any information regarding this they can also email callcentre@pngpower.com.pg.

Easipay Customers advised to note issues

This issue is affecting delivery of Easipay Tokens after purchase is done via Digicel Top Up.

Easipay customers who do not receive their Easipay Tokens via SMS must contact the Digicel Customer Care to retrieve their Easypar Tokens.

K35 million for new Kilakila Substation

The contract which was signed today between PNG Power Ltd and a Pestech will see the design, supply, construction and commissioning of the Kilakila substations infrastructure.

The PNG Government and Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded substation will make it possible for a transformer to be taken off the line without causing any disruption to connect consumers and will have a power evacuated capability of 20MVA under normal operation.

Ramu 2 Hydro contract negotiations on going

PNG Power Board Chairman, Andrew Ogil, says negotiations are ongoing despite the election period.

He said the Project was the biggest hydro power undertaking and so it was imperative for PNG’s interests, as well as the developers, were properly covered in any agreement.

“So what we are doing is that there is a team in PPL working on that, with KCH as a shareholder, plus the contractor. By the time it comes to the Board, I will then endorse it to the board and PPL, and to the NEC. By that time we’ll be in a position to sign off.

Well-deserved win for PNG Power: Captain

It’s been a tough season. We had a lot of ups and downs, but the boys continued to work hard and their determination brought us all the way,” he said.

“Yokomo was the better team this season, beating us three times. We knew what we had to do to beat them.

“The boys are really over the moon about the win and they deserve it.”

Tovia added the team has plenty of young guns that will lead PNG Power into the future.

“We’re looking forward to doing this again next season,” said Tovia.

Power dethrone Yokomo

The Power boys got off to a perfect start taking a 5-0 lead by the top of the second inning through runs scored by Demas Tovia, Paul Tabete, Daniel Tovia, Eugene Tovue and Edward Sena.

Yokomo registered their first two points in the same inning, firstly through Paul Bogan from a passed ball, and then from David Upaupa who came home from a sacrifice hit from Taki Zale.

Eddie Simba scored PNG Power’s only run in the next inning to make it 6-2.

Port Moresby power back to normal

The State Owned Power supplier in a statement this afternoon stated that total power outage in Port Moresby on Thursday at 8:15pm was because of a fault on line 545 which connects power supply between the LNG Gas plant, Kanudi and Moitaka power stations.

Normal power supply was restored at 12am in Port Moresby.

The outage, which affected the city and surrounding areas, occurred when there was a transformer fault on the Waigani Feeder 4 which resulted in load shedding and affected Gerehu, Morata, Waigani, Tokarara and Ensisi Valley.

Blackouts to be a thing of the past says PNG Power CEO

And electricity supplier PNG Power is working on a permanent solutions to avoid power outage in the future.

Chief Executive Officer Chris Bais when contacted said PNG Power was doing everything to ensure this problem is eased.

“We are working on permanent solutions and by end of January all will be good,” Bais said.

Many city residents and businesses are concerned the long hours of power outrage and constant black outs have affected their daily activities.

Bais said the power blackouts is simply because of key factors being worked on by PNG Power.

PPL boss calls for change

Ogil made this comment when speaking to the state owned electricity company managers who converged to Port Moresby for the 2016 Conference which ends today.   

He said PNG Power have become synonym with blackouts throughout the country.

“PNG Power is the engine room of the country and you and I must understand that.”  

He added that the K36 million profits for the 2015 financial year will be used to upgrade its aging equipment and also training its staff to move with change.
