PNG Power urged to help develop NCD

Parkop was referring mainly to the newly constructed road from Badihagwa to Nine-Mile that are without street lights.

I have taken note of what has been mentioned and do confirm that this particular road development has had no lights yet.

It is a requirement for any town authority or development partners that before construction is made on roads or buildings that will require power supply, they must always involve PPL from the planning phase right through to construction and commissioning.

Court dismisses case against Mangos

The Committal Court today dismissed the case against Mangos on three charges involving the post he previously held at PNG Power.

He was arrested and charged on March 15 for dishonestly applying the property of PNG Power, abuse of office and conspiring to defraud PNG Power.

Magistrate John Kaumi of the Committal Court today gave his ruling on the case, saying evidence by police investigators did not meet the elements that would amount to sufficient evidence before the court.

Tangit reinstated, but Mangos locked out

A circular issued to the staff of PNG Power today confirmed this.

Tangit was suspended last year after the failed rural electrification project in the Angoram District of East Sepik Province was raised in Parliament by the local MP Salio Waipo.

While Tangit was reinstated as per a circular today, the National Executive Council yesterday reinstated John Mangos as the Executive Director of PNG Power.

However, news of Mangos reinstatement was not welcomed at the PPL head office at Hohola this morning when he was prevented from entering the office gates.

Police pay up for power

“Power has been restored after receiving a cheque of K800,000 this morning,” PPL acting chief executive officer John Yanis told Loop PNG.

The state-owned power supplier turned off power supply to the police headquarters after the department failed to settle their bills amounting to K2.2 million.

Yanis said PNG Power needs money to operate, and other state institutions who owe the company will see their power switched off also.

“We are running a business, we need money to operate.

Mangos allowed by Court to travel

Justice Panuel Mogish heard the application and granted leave for Mangos to travel to Australia to visit his family.

Mangos is on a K1, 500 District Court bail and one of the conditions is to not leave the country without national court approval.

He will be travelling out of Port Moresby on November 26 and is expected to return on December 6.

He will also be allowed to travel to Australia on December 18 and return on January 10, 2016.

He has named two guarantors; Paul Caiter and Andrew Kidu.
