PNG National Weather Service

Strong wind warning issued

The PNG National Weather Service today issued renewed strong wind warning for all coastal waters of PNG.

All small craft and boats are adviced to take the necessary precaution before going out to sea.

Strong northwest surges of 25/34 knots are expected to continue for the next 24 hours causing rough seas and high wind waves.

The weather office says this is due to tropical cyclone Tatiana located within 85km of 17.30S, 159.00E that is offshore of Queensland.

Weatherman says less rainfall expected

National Weather Service director Samuel Maiha says the country will experience rain throughout the country in the next three months but below the average rainfall.

The temperature for the next three months is expected to be very warm during the day and warmer than usual at night due to more cloud cover during the monsoon period.

Maiha confirmed that the current rainfall throughout PNG is very consistent with the outlook provided by weather experts at the APEC Climate Centre (APCC) in Busan, South Korea.
