NRI launches new website

This was the message during the official launching of the NRI’s new website today in Port Moresby.

NRI Senior Deputy Director, Dr David Ayres, said the goal of the new website is to bring together stakeholders, the government, and interested researchers to begin to address and think about the development challenges in Papua New Guinea.

“Central to the PNG knowledge hub and central to the NRI is our motto which we call the three I’s which are ‘inquire, inform, influence,” said Ayres.

NRI highlights need to reduce import duties on building materials

This will also promote opportunities for a competitive residential property market.

PNG National Research Institute (PNGNRI) reports that currently, most materials that are used to build houses in PNG are imported from overseas.

The import duties placed on the materials tend to push up their prices and consequently, this increases the cost of building houses.

PNGNRI researcher for the property development research program, Professor Eugene Ezebilo, said there is a need to lower duties on building materials, equipment and machines.

Report reveals high rental rates in Port Moresby

This was revealed in findings of a report released this week by the Papua New Guinea National Research Institute (PNG NRI).

The report is titled: “Potential Gains from the Development of a Viable Residential Property Market in PNG” (NRI Spotlight article Volume 9, Issue 6).

This Spotlight contributes to the debate on property development and a sustainable housing policy in PNG.

It focuses on one of the findings of the recent article by Associate Professor Eugene Ezebilo (2016) concerning residential property prices in Port Moresby.

NRI to create new Knowledge Hub

The hub will bring together a community of organisations, leaders, researchers, consultants, academics, government and private sector people.

The Knowledge Hub will be focused in generating, processing, storing, transferring and applying knowledge. In a presentation today, NRI Director Dr Charles Yala said the only way to effectively confront the development challenges faced by PNG will be to bring stakeholders together.

He said stakeholders working together will be more productive than stakeholders working in isolation.
