NRI launches state fragility report

Highlighting that state fragility is a situation where the state suffers from deficiencies in capacity, legitimacy or authority, which can also be associated with a weak economy and low resilience to shocks.

As State fragility can relate to the whole country, it is a combination of many issues from the identity of the State, internal and external security issues, state of the economy, and exercise of state powers and functions and authority, which can affect one or all.

A Look Into the Dual Roles of MPs

Authored by Michael Kabuni, a PhD Candidate from the Australian National University, Kabuni highlights the issues, and argues for the need to start a national conversation on the dual roles of Members of Parliament.

The paper was initially presented in February 2022 during the National Conference facilitated by the Autonomy and Decentralization Research Institute led by Dr Thomas Webster. 

Commercial focus vital for national airports

The National Airport Corporation (NAC) is responsible for the provision, maintenance and development of 22 designated national airports. Over the years, the emphasis in managing these airports has been on an investment program to ensure the airports are developed to meet internationally acceptable safety and security standards. However, this has come at a cost of limited attention to operational efficiency and efficient pricing of airport services.

He presents the case for the government to consider establishing an entity specifically for the administration of customary land.
