PNG reaching for new heights

PNG will become the first Oceania nation - aside from New Zealand - to host a FIFA women’s tournament when the world’s best U-20 players head for Melanesia later this year.

Before then, however, there will be another first as one of the region’s fastest growing football nations welcome their neighbours for the maiden OFC Nations Cup in PNG.

The continental championship doubles as 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ qualifying, where six of the eight teams will advance to the next stage.

PNG men’s team prepare for OFC Nations Cup

Twenty-five players have been called in for the camp in Port Moresby to prepare for the Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup starting in May.

PNG coach Flemming Serritslev said all players are selected from the National Soccer League and he has seen very good players emerge from this competition.

The team will play two friendly matches in Solomon Islands followed by three matches in South Korea as part of their lead-up preparation.

The final training camp will be in Moresby a week before the event.
