Over K110 million for royalties in 2014

According to the PNG Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative’s (EITI) 2014 Report, US$39.8 million (K119.4 million) has been paid to DPE.

The report also confirms that the payment is currently held in a trust account and has not been distributed due to uncertainties over the identity of rightful beneficiaries. This situation still remains for many landowners.

Early this month, acting DPE Secretary, Kepsie Puiye, said pipeline landowners in Central Province would receive their royalties after clearance is given by the State Solicitor’s Office.

Somare condemns media report

Somare was quoted in Loop PNG claiming that “The plight of the Gulf people's LNG benefit is not the work of the government.”

However, he said Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s Government has continuously breached the PNG LNG Projects’ 2009 UBSA and LBBSAs and has failed to deliver the entitlements and rights of the Beneficiary Group Landowners as secured in the UBSA Benefits Package by impacted landowners and provincial governments in May 2009.

“Unlike any other provinces, Gulf Province has two LNG projects and potentially an absolutely fantastic prospect for the future.

Report reveals possible large scale land scam

This includes customary landowners of Tatana, Baruni, Roku, Kouderika, Porebada, Boera, Papa, and Lealea and business communities along the Fairfax Harbour starting with Puma at Napanapa, ending at Motukea and the Edai Township towards the PNG LNG Site.

EMPNG announces addition to resource base

This bring the recoverable resource base to 11.5 tcf, which is a 25 per cent increase beyond the earlier 9.2 tcf assessment.

ExxonMobil PNG, operator of the PNG LNG joint venture, announced this today in a statement following an independent review and recertification study.

ExxonMobil PNG Managing Director, Andrew Barry, says “the independent review highlights the exceptional quality of the PNG LNG project resources and the significant increase in resource provides the potential for additional mid or long-term sales.”

Hunters hold coaching clinics for Hiri West league association

Local rugby league teams in Boera, Porebada, Papa and Lealea villages were put through their paces with the Hunters showing them warm-up techniques, fitness training and ball handling skills.

There was also a serious message behind the Hunters visit who also took the opportunity to talk to local players about drug and alcohol abuse. 

The clinics were facilitated by PNG LNG, sponsor of the Hunters and PNG LNG Kumuls, in association with the Porebada Bulldogs club, the Buria Reds club of Lealea and the Boera and Koita Rugby League Association of Papa respectively.

Porebada Primary in need of teachers’ houses and classrooms

The school is located within Porebada Village in the Kairuku Hiri District and has a population of more than 1000 students which includes the elementary school.

The village has a population of over 10,000 people and this has seen an increase of students every year.

The school started in the 1950s and is now a level six standard with 24 teachers, and is a feeder school to Redscar High School. 

Deputy Head Teacher Kute Nokae revealed that the school only has 15 teachers’ houses with nine teachers accommodated by the village.

Huge turn up for signing with KPHL

Scores of men and women tried to get into Crowne Plaza Hotel where the signing ceremony is to take place, but were turned away by security and police personnel.

The unhappy group crowded in front of the entrance to the hotel premises demanded to be let in but to no avail.

KPHL staff only let in identified landowner representatives and several witnesses to the signing.

Oil price recovery will help LNG price

The recovery in oil prices would see major impacts on PNG’s economy with increased revenue from oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales.

The fall in oil prices has been a double blow for PNG, with revenue from petroleum production suffering as well as LNG from the PNG LNG Project.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), LNG prices are directly linked to oil prices and any change in the latter affects the former.

Landowners support vendor financing

He said this during signing of documents by the Governors Southern Highlands, Hela, Gulf and Central to exercise the option before the option lapses on  December 31, 2016.

Under the Umbrella Benefit Sharing Agreement (UBSA) of 2009, the Kroton Equity Option represents an option to purchase 4.27 per cent of the states 16.57 per cent equity in the PNGLNG Project, which is held by KPHL.

PNG LNG on track to deliver cargo in 2016

This is on the back of the resource company over-performing since coming on-line in 2014.

Speaking at the PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference in Sydney, Australia, ExxonMobil (PNG) Managing Director, Andrew Barry, said there is more potential growth and will be beneficial for all stakeholders.

“Since production began we have safely shipped over 250 cargoes of LNG to our customers in the Asia Pacific. We are on track to deliver over 7.9MMT in 2016,” he said.
