Tribute to first-ever Lewas captain

The former national captain passed away suddenly in Port Moresby on Wednesday September 29th.

“The Amini family has represented Papua New Guinea with distinction – on and off the field – playing vital roles on the field, and in leadership, with an Amini captaining a Cricket PNG team becoming somewhat of a formality,” said CPNG.

Barras Bash T20 Launch

The tournament is part of the Barras and Lewas lead up preparations to the upcoming ICCT20 World Cup which will be held Oman in October and November this year.

The tournament launch coincided with the donation of a brand new Isuzu TWD ute to be used as part of the PNG Barras campaign for their historic ICCT20 World Cup appearance this year.

Lewas squad announced for Scotland

Their pool matches will be against Bangladesh, USA and hosts Scotland, with the top two through to the semifinals. The other pool consists of Ireland, Thailand, Netherlands and Namibia; the two teams that reach the grand final will win a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia next year.

Lewas star in world development squad

The two Lewas were selected on their recent form and are benefiting from the ICC’s increased investment in women’s cricket. They join promising talent from around the world in this composite team taking on a strong English side in this T20 series.

Samoa and PNG shaping up for showdown

In yesterday’s match between Samoa and Japan, the trend of bowling first continued as Samoa sent Japan in.

Japan never looked like setting a competitive total with a run rate of under two runs an over for most of the match.

Some late hitting from Rio Endo (9 not out) brought some spark to the last quarter of the innings but it was too late and Japan could only manage 49 runs from their 20 overs.

Speaking today at the announcement of the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas squad, Manager for Corporate Services, Marlene Dutta said the company was happy to be associated with a successful national team like the Lewas.

“The success of the team (City Pharmacy PNG Lewas) thus-far has set the bar high for the rest of the season and for all the future teams.

“I am positive, that the team announced today will continue to do yourself, your families, your teammates and PNG proud, said Dutta.

City Pharmacy has been the major sponsor of the Lewas since 2016.

Australia’s deputy envoy commends Lewas

Ms Moules made the comments during a reception for visiting international cricket legends and representatives of the Lewas led by Vice-captain Ravini Oa.

The Lewas following their success in the ICC East Asia Pacific qualifiers are now preparing for the 2017 World Cup qualifiers in Sri Lanka.

Off the field, the team is part of the Australian-funded Girls Empowerment through Cricket and Kriket Blo Olgeta programs, in partnership with Cricket PNG.

Cricket PNG congratulates Lewas

Cricket PNG general manager, Greg Campbell, praised the PNG Lewas on their performance during the EAP qualifiers. Lewas proved to be undefeated, ending the host team Samoa on their home soil to qualify.

“It was an extraordinary performance and I would like to congratulate all the team players and the officials on the victory,” Campbell said.

He also extended his thanks to the major sponsors, City Pharmacy Limited, for their huge support in sponsoring the team and also the relevant stakeholder Pure Water Limited.

PNG Lewas cruise over New Caledonia

Opener Konia Oala scored an unbeaten 108 runs.

Her knock included 13 fours and 4 sixes belted all over the park.

Varoi Morea also pitched in with 42 runs to set up a mammoth target of 194 runs after batting out the full 20 overs at the at the loss of 3 wickets.

The New Caledonians struggled to build partnerships and lost their first five wickets for 23 runs.

Middle order batsman Louise Wawine top scored with 15 runs.

PNG’s Bonnie David was outstanding snaring 4/10 followed by all-rounder Tanya Ruma who returned with figures of 3/9.
