PNG completed a 2-0 series win against Nepal after defeating the host by three wickets on Saturday.

PNG reached 279 runs target set by Nepal in 48.4 overs losing seven wickets in a match played at TU Cricket Ground in Kathmandu.

Lega Siaka top-scored for PNG at 90 runs off 102 balls smashing 12 fours and a six as Riley Hekure (not out) and Sese Bau contributed 48 and 38 runs respectively.

A big tour for a number of reasons but for PNG an opportunity to get back into the winners circle and climb the ICC World Cup League 2 ladder. 

The PNG Barramundies are aiming to mount a comeback and a return to the international winners circle as they get their six-week tour of the UAE & Nepal underway. 

The Barramundis departed Brisbane for Dubai today. The tour will see PNG play three separate series across both the 50 over One Day International and T20I formats. With a potential fourth series against Scotland and Oman, as part of World Cricket League 2 being confirmed.
As for the playing squad, an extended 16-man side will travel due to the lengthy nature of the tour (six weeks). 

A larger squad off 22 players will head to the Gold Coast this Sunday. They will be based at Runaway Bay, attending the ‘Gold Coast High Performance Sport Centre’ alongside fellow countrymen in the PNG Hunters.

Throughout the 3 weeks the Barramundis will train at the Gold Coast cricket club whilst also playing practice matches against club sides where available.

For the players the camp serves as a final selection opportunity and given the poor form of 2021, the coaching staff may be looking at a number of changes to the side.

A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, Amini said playing in a big stadium in PNG’s first Cricket World Cup with all the media hype, the photo shoots was a culture shock.

Charles comes from a cricketing family, his father and grandfather both captained PNG while his mother and aunt have played for the PNG women’s team, with two of his brothers have played for PNG U19 as well.

He first played for PNG at the U19 level in 2002, U19 World Cup in New Zealand and the same tournament in Bangladesh in 2004.

It was a proud moment for many Papua New Guineans and especially cricket fanatics, seeing the Barras compete at the cricket World Cup cricket. It was also an emotional moment for Cricket PNG, sponsors, families and fans.

Captain, Chris Amini when speaking on behalf of the players said: “This was the first time to participate at the T20 World Cup and it was a wonderful experience representing over 8 million people back in the country with thousands watching on TV.”

Scotland scored 165 in 20 overs, led by Richie Berrington's 70, Matthew Cross's 45 off 36 balls, which included two sixes and two fours, and George Munsey's 15.

An entertaining knock down the order by Norman Vanua gave PNG fans some late hope. He and Kiplin Doriga added 53 off just 29 balls but having been 35/5 at that point in chase of a target of 166, PNG had left it too much too late.

Kabua Morea, PNG's top bowler, got four wickets for 31 runs in four overs, Chad Soper took three wickets for 24 runs in four overs, and Simon Atai grabbed one wicket.

PNG appeared to have been overwhelmed by the occasion losing two of their batters at the top of the order without adding to their tallies.

Scotland are on a high, and a win today could take them a step closer to the Super 12s.

For PNG the realization can be disconcerting, but it's the reality of the format; only two teams from the pool can qualify into the next round.

The event aims to celebrate the Kumul Petroleum PNG Barramundis’ historic participation in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup.

The cricket world cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman starting Sunday, October 17^th.

Cricket PNG, with the support of the PNGAus Partnership, is facilitating the Village Cricket T10 World Cup after initially postponing it due to COVID-19 measures. 

During that time, I knew I had to work hard if I was to be selected again for the Kumul Petroleum PNG Barramundis.

So I spent much of that time training to prove myself worthy of a spot.

When I got the call confirming my re-selection for the team, I knew my hard work had paid off.

My family got me into the game.

My father played. My brother played. In fact, he used to play for the Barras, and so I look up to my big brother Vani. He was the opening batsman in a game against Kenya and scored 112 in that game.
