Push for disability act to be endorsed

PNGADP male co-chairman and chairman of the New Ireland provincial branch, Medley Laban, said currently the draft Act has gone back for editing and once finalised, would be put through parliament.

Speaking in Kokopo, East New Britain Province during a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) for the NGI region, Laban said though the PNG Government signed the UNCRPD in 2013, there has been very slow progress in terms of implementation.

Bank drives accessibility and inclusion

Recently at the Kina Waigani branch, the bank conducted an accessibility audit in collaboration with the PNG Assembly of Disabled Persons (PNGADP).

The audit took place in the branch with members from DisAbility Association of PNG to review the functionality of our branches for people living with disabilities.

NGO group, World Vision, who have been collaborating with PNGADP on a project called RIDE (Real Inclusion in Disability Engagement).

Through the RIDE project, female Co-Chair for the PNG Assembly of Disabled Persons, Jacqueline Boga Garoau acknowledged and thanked World Vision for providing the laptops to the Board Members of PNGADP and to DFAT for its financial support towards this partnership arrangement period that is expected to lapse 2023.
