Gov’t urged to consider landowners

PRK chairman, John Kapi Natto, stated this during the cheque presentation of K120 million in Legacy Tax Liability to the Internal Revenue Commission yesterday.

 “I think the government sometimes lacks a lot of things to our resource people. We give a lot to this nation and giving back to the resource owners are less. We see roads not built, schools, health centers not built to standard.

“This presentation shows and reflects that we as landowners as a company and many other landowner companies can comply to pay our tax,” he stated.

PRK settle legacy tax liability

Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) managing director, Augustine Mano, represented PRK to present the cheque to IRC.

“We are here representing Petroleum Resources Kutubu were they represent 6.75 percent which is Kutubu and one percent of PNG LNG. So we’ve had a dispute with IRC since 2011 and in 2019, we resolved that and agreed on payments schedule.

Kikori Church, Women And Youth Get Dinghies

PRK Director, Abraham Murepe handed over four 40-horse powered dinghies to a Women, Youth and Church group from Kikori. The groups received one each while the fourth dinghy was earmarked for the general use of the Kikori community.

The groups have approached the government and resource developers operating in the area for assistance in transport, to no avail.

“We have had no support to empower us in our activities,” Kikori District Women’s Council President, Waro Baigei said.

Kikori Secondary gets new vehicle

Petroleum Resources Kutubu (PRK) donated a new Land Cruiser ten seater to the rural school this week.

The students expressed gratitude through song and dramatised the hardships they faced, having to physically carry goods from the wharf to the school or hiring PMV trucks to bring in supplies from Mt Hagen via road.

In a small ceremony at the school, the principal,  Collin Sauka was handed the key by the Minerial Resource Development Corporation general manager Imbi Tagune.

MRDC is the custodian of all landowners’ royalty dividends paid by the State.
