peaceful protest

Petition for Change in WNB

The march was led by Dr Yvonne Sapuri and Dr. Beatrice Solok where a petition was presented to the provincial government, calling for immediate measures to curb the escalating law and order issues.

The march was not only relating to the health sector, for all citizens of West New Britain who feel threatened and unsafe in their own areas of work and residences.

Dr. Sapuri stressed that it is not safe anymore and brought this peaceful petition as a reminder that the people have had enough.

Parkop calls on men to join GBV protest

National Capital District (NCD) Governor Powes Parkop is calling on the male population to stand together with the womenfolk and join in the peaceful protest on Friday, December 16.

Parkop urged the men to come out in big numbers and support this cause.

He said gender-based violence is a development issue and an issue about men, the type of people they are and the type of value system they have.

Parkop also appealed to all women groups, non-government organisations, government departments, corporate companies and churches to turn up.

NCD police support GBV protest

The protest will be led by women and youth leaders in Port Moresby and is a call for action for the Government to endorse the National Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Strategy 2016-25.

NCD police boss Ben Turi said police officers will be taking care of roadblocks and control the traffic from the Waigani traffic light to Boroko traffic light.

The event will take place along Waigani Drive and protestors will be stationed at the section of the road that will be blocked off.
