‘Take Back PNG’ explained to investors

Prime Minister James Marape made this remark when opening the 17th Papua New Guinea Resources and Energy Conference in Sydney, Australia, this morning.

Speaking at a packed Sydney International Convention Centre, PM Marape painted the resource-rich PNG as a potential investor destination.

He explained that the ‘Take Back PNG’ mantra was about negotiating the best deals for both investors and PNG.

Exposure vital for squash junior development

Squash tournament director, Merlyn Alarcos-Kriebisch the PNG juniors had an outstanding performance, this time they had to better their own records. Ethan Kriebisch, River-Jordan Hakena and Timonaliz Alarcos-Kriebisch registered high performance in their respective events.

“We thank our club Port Moresby Racquets Club, PNG Squash Racquets Federation and PNG friends based in Tauranga for their support in providing various needs to help us settle in,” said Alarcos-Kriebisch.

Everyone has a role

These members of society often face mistreatment, are more susceptible to abuse, have higher mortality rates compared to persons without disabilities, and have a higher illiteracy rate as well.

Speaking during the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, at the Eriku Oval, Australian Consul-General in Lae, Mark Foxe, voiced the need for every member of the community to promote the rights of People With Disabilities (PWDs).

This is so that people with disabilities can lead and participate in the decision-making processes that affect them.

FPDA financial performance stable

As Team PNG bid farewell to week one athletes, PNG is hopeful for better performances with a fresh contingent set for an action-packed week.

As of Saturday 25th November, PNG has bagged 26 medals (4 Gold, 10 Silver and 12 Bronze) – 13 medals where from weightlifting alone.  PNG currently sits in 10th place on the Medal Tally.

Competitions in Boxing, Netball, Va'a, Touch Football, Bodybuilding, Powerlifting, Athletics, Hockey, Basketball 3x3, Beach Volleyball, Taekwondo, and Triathlon. Tennis and Football teams continue their journey.

PNG inks agreement with Philippines

Minister of State Assisting the Prime Minister, Justin Tkatchenko signed the agreement with Enrique A. Manalo, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Philippines on Policy Consultation recently.

The MoU will set a more structured approach to discuss issues of interests in the area of trade and investment, climate change, health, education, etc.

Minister Tkatchenko acknowledged Manalo and his delegation for availing time amidst their busy APEC schedule to sign the MoU.

First contingent arrive in Honiara

They now join the advance team that arrived last Friday, November 10th.

Team PNG consists of 483 athletes and 22 team officials who will compete in 21 different sports during the games.

Chef De Mission (CDM) Faye Zina Lalo, who led Team PNG's first contingent yesterday expressed her excitement.

“Today marks my third visit to the Solomon Islands, and I’m thrilled to be here with my team for this year’s games in Honiara.

PNG will be looking for another impressive showing at this year’s Pacific Games after their second-place finish on the medal tally of the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

The team of seven consisted of Team General Manager Anzilla Miro and leads of respective functional areas; Christabella Amona (administration), Adam Parka (Operations), Dr. Kapua Kapua (Chief Medical Officer), Matthew Natusch (Physio), Desmond Kaviagu (Performance) and Andrew Molen (Media).

Miro said PNG will be sending a large number of athletes for the games.

Pacific Games athletes told to pay levy by tomorrow

The PNG Olympic Committee board in its meeting of 08 November resolved to extend the payment deadline to tomorrow Friday 10 November 

The National Federations (sports) must pay the mandated K2,000 levy per athlete and official for the upcoming Pacific Games. 

PNGOC as of this morning contacted each of the sports yet to pay in full and urged them to meet their obligations to their athletes. This is the fourth and final deadline for payment, the first being May 2023.
