Pacific Marine Industrial Zone (PMIZ) project

Voice of the Voiceless want to be heard

Voice of the Voiceless (VoV) is a group comprising of the Madang Provincial Civil Society Organization Forum (MPCSOF) Inc. and the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone (PMIZ) Development Advocacy Forum.

They act as talking carriage of the landowners of impact corridor communities and represent the Madang populous whom the PMIZ project should benefit.

Madang must be economic powerhouse

This year, for the first time, the Government is putting K100 million into the PMIZ project.

The PM said this when announcing the funding allocation during his visit to Walium Station in Usino-Bundi recently.

Prime Minister Marape said the project will be managed by the National Fisheries Authority and the K100 million, included in the 2022 Budget, has already been allocated.

The PMIZ project was first mooted in 2004, and was launched by the previous government in 2015.

PMIZ finally gets underway

PMIZ is situated close to RD Tuna Cannery at Vidar, Madang Province.

This project will be developed on 215 hectares of land.

It is understood, 100 hectares will host canneries and 115 hectares for residential and commercial purposes.

The project was delayed for five years because of Court proceedings instigated by customary landowners because of environmental concerns.

Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru ticked the project has one of the achievement for his department in 2015.

Minister denies plot to destroy islands for canneries

Maru was responding to a PNG Loop question over the issue of the PMIZ today in Port Moresby.

He said “these are all lies’’ and people needed to know the facts about the project and stop misleading the media.

He said many lies had been going on about the project and those “telling the lies” were trying to destroy the project.

However, Maru said he will not tolerate those lies and will continue with the project.
