The 3-day advanced cardiac camp has been organised with the West New Britain Provincial Health Authority.

The camp will conduct ECG tests, echo-cardiogram & will have a senior consultant (cardiologist) – Dr Suresh Venkita – counselling patients, for free.

PIH records 3,500 breast cancer cases yearly

The equation has also gone to show that most cases are from the affluent population than those from rural areas.

Unfortunately, many women, especially those from the rural areas, present themselves when the cancer is already at its late stage and needs surgical intervention, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and long term follow-up treatment after surgery.

This statistic poses a challenge, says the Senior Consultant – Dr Mathias Sapuri.

Free mammography for 2000 women!

Mammography is a low-dose x-ray procedure to see the internal structure of the breast and is commonly used in examination of breast cancer – one of the most common cancer in women.

The free screening will be given to women who are over 30 years of age, have history of breast cancer in the family and have been referred to by any government or private hospital/health centre or an Health Extension Officer.

PIH will also conduct pap smear tests for cervical cancer, to address two types of cancer at one time.

NGBC will be funding this program for K350,000.

Healthy diets this Easter

Dr Suresh Venkita from the Pacific International Hospital reminds you that “a high intake of sugar any time is unwise”.

In an apparently healthy person, he says, sugar is a fuel which has to be burned efficiently and quickly before it is turned into fat (like surplus money which is parked in a fixed deposit!).

There’s also the risk of accidents due to high sugar intake in one time.
