One more Gold for Apisah in Tennis

This is the fourth Gold Abigail Tere-Apisah picked up in the competition defeating New Caledonia's Yaelle Honakoko.

Tere-Apisah won in straight sets 6-1 6-2 in the women's singles against Honakoko.

Meanwhile Abigail’s niece, Violet Apisah (PNG) missed out in bronze just after 2pm going down to New Caledonia's Ana Pain.

Apisah lost 2 sets to 1 in a long drawn out match that lasted two hours.

Pain won the match 6-4 1-6 6-4.

Pain won Gold in the 2011 Pacific Games in tennis however did not make it to the Gold medal play off.

Games is more than medals

 PNG womens soccer team captain  Deslyn Sinu took time out after PNG'S match with Samoa this week to present her Samoan rival and friend a gift.

Samoa captain Rosie Leota and Deslyn  have met many times on field both striving to be the best.

Samoa came to the Pacific Games with dramatic improvement to their team with the recruitment of Leota an Auckland based player.

 Unfortunately Samoa lost to Cook islands in the Bronze playoff.

Sinui on the other is an old hand at soccer having come from a family that is heavily involved in soccer.

Fiji leads Hockey pool standing

Hockey will resume today at 1pm after a day of rest yesterday.

In the men’s division, Fiji is leading the pool with four straight wins on 16 points, Vanuatu second with two wins and one loss.

PNG is sitting third with 5 points having played three games, losing two and winning one match.

Solomon Islands is on fourth place with 4 points having won two out of their three matches.

Tonga remains at the bottom of the pool and yet to register a win.

Today the Fijian men are on bye, Vanuatu will play Solomons at 1pm while PNG take on Tonga at 4pm.
