OTML announces K160m dividend

In a statement, chairman Sir Moi Avei said the result follows a strong first half year performance of the mine.

The result exceeds OTML’s forecast expectations with good copper prices, resulting in strong profits despite many challenges.

“The Mine has exceeded forecast metal production year to date and in recent months, we have seen a higher than forecast copper price further strengthening profitability.

250 Western Province students qualify for OTDF scholarship

The students are from the Preferred Area Development area and Community Mine Continuation Agreement Trust region areas of Western Province.

The PAD covers the Ok Tedi mine-impacted villages and also the Telefomin District of Sandaun Province while the Trust covers eight regions – Nupmo, Tutuwe, Wai Tri, Middle Fly, Suki-Fly Gogo, Manawete, Dudi, and Kiwaba.

The scholarship program is funded by the CMCA Trusts and the PAD under Ok Tedi Mining Limited at a cost of about K2.69million and includes both new and continuing students.

New K2.1m jetty for South Fly people

Built at the Dudi Trust Region, Madire village jetty, which was opened last week, was funded through the OTML Tax Credit Scheme (TCS) at a total cost of K2.1 million.

Ok Tedi Development Foundation (OTDF), manager infrastructure development, George Kombe, says a total of K14.79 million through the TCS was approved to construct and upgrade five jetties in the South Fly Region.

The other four are; Sturt Island and Suki jetties in Suki Fly Gogo Region, Waliyama jetty in Manawete Trust Region, and Gesowa jetty in Kiwaba Trust Region, South Fly.

Dry spell to force shutdown on Ok Tedi

 A statement a short time ago said however the mine will continue to operate “while critical supplies allow’’.

OTML said it is preparing to shut down its operations “temporarily as a result of the dry weather event that is already significantly impacting its operations’’.

The mine’s operations have been affected like this in past years, especially during protracted dry weather.

The statement says: “River traffic on the Fly River into and out of Ok Tedi’s main river port at Kiunga has been unreliable for some weeks due to low water levels.
