Repaying His Debt In ARoB

Immanuel Jacob Telasegonyo was accepted to the Lae School of Nursing and travelled from Menyamya in 2018, even though he did not have the money to pay his school fees.

He travelled only with hope that an opportunity would enable him to pursue nursing studies.

Upon arrival in Lae, Telasegonyo was excited to find out that he would be supported by Newcrest Mining.

“The scholarship support was a very big thing in my life. With my background, there was no way I would have raised the required funds to pay my fees.”

Newcrest Mining has come to the aid of St John Ambulance to support its operations following a demand for ambulance services due to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the Morobe province.

Funds for the ambulance came from Newcrest’s Community Support Fund (CFS) that was established in April 2020 to help Newcrest’s host communities respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lihir Schools Get Mattresses

Lihir Secondary and Palie Vocational Centre (VC) recently received 100 mattresses from Newcrest under a bi-annual program spearheaded by the company’s Towns and Camps section, to mattresses and furniture to schools.

This year’s gift of mattresses made it possible to start a ‘best cubicle’ incentive for boarding students at the Palie VC.

Palie VC manager, Mirriam Levi Siwat said she was grateful for the mattresses and that the donation would enable the training centre to implement the ‘best cubicle’ award.
