Marape was on-site accompanied by the Governor for Enga Province Sir Peter Ipatas, Mining Minister Muguwa Dilu, Member for Laiagap Amos Akem, Country Manager for Barrick Niugini Limited Karo Lelai, Managing Director of the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) Jerry Garry, and Managing Director of Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL) Sarimu Kanu.

PM meets leaders to address pressing issues

The discussions also encompassed the crucial matter of land ownership in relation to the power pylons erected along the route.

Highlighting the urgency of these issues, Prime Minister James Marape emphasized the need for immediate resolution before the anticipated reopening of the New Porgera Mine.

Prominent Hela leaders present during the meeting included Governor Philip Undialu, Koroba-Kopiago MP William Bando, and Komo-Hulia MP Daniel Tindipu.

They are the Papua LNG Project, New Porgera Mine, Wafi-Golpu Mine, P’nyang LNG, Pasca LNG and Pandora LNG.

 

Marape announced this when responding to the Ministerial Statement by Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey on the ‘2020 Final Budget Outcomes (FBO) and 2021 Mid-Year Fiscal and Economic Outlook (MYEFO) and the Way Forward’ on Wednesday.

 

“We are working very hard, and in just two years, we are discussing Papua to ensure that it takes off, Wafi-Golpu, New Porgera, Pandora, Pasca and P’nyang.
