NCD Health Services no longer under NDoH

NCD Health Services now falls under the management of the city authority.

For many years Port Moresby’s health services have suffered with patients paying the price of this administrative blunder.

Management and running of most of the provincial clinics and health centres across the country fall directly under their provincial governments but this has not been the case for Port Moresby clinics and health centres.

Secretary for Health Pascoe Kase said due to this, provision of health services in the nation’s capital has performed below required indicators.

Acute malnutrition on rise in NCD

Nutritionist Sr Dani Aiva Stocks, from NCD Health Services, says this is a direct impact of the rise in prices of goods and services, greatly affecting mothers and children in marginalised communities.

Small urban clinics like the Gordon Health Centre attend to 24 malnutrition cases per month while major hospitals such as Gerehu and Kaugere record more.

AFL youngsters encouraged to stay fit and healthy

Speaking this morning to over 200 children at the Colts Oval, Non-Communicable Diseases Program Officer for NCD Health Services, Israel Naraman stressed on the importance of being physically active through sports, eating healthy and saying no to smoking and alcohol.

“Yesterday marked World TB day and we want to continue to drive the message home about healthy living. We can do this through sports.

“Through our partnership with World Vision, we will continue to reach out to the youth through other sporting codes,” said Naraman.

Public invited to walk to fight cervical cancer

The official program states that the walk will commence at 6am to 7am led by Royal PNG Constabulary and NCD Health Services float followed by partners, stakeholders and the public.

The walk is part of the Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign organised by National Capital District Health Services (NCDHS).

The theme for the awareness campaign is “Eliminate cervical cancer through HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening”.
