Public servants without NID to be axed

Minister for Public Service, Joe Sungi in a statement issued this warning on Monday.

The Public Service Ministry has directed Department of Personnel Management (DPM) to adhere to the Ministerial Directive No.1/2023 which was issued on the January 26, 2023.

Minister for Public Service, Joe Sungi said this directive issued to all heads of agencies stipulates that Public Servants paid through GoPNG Payroll will have to be registered by the end of June to remain on payroll, as part of the exercise to identify ghost employees paid through the government payroll.

NID Project Enhances Identity Verification

These innovative devices can read NID cards and use fingerprint authentication technology to ensure the person presenting the NID card is the same as the one in the database.

The gradual rollout of these devices has commenced. The first device was handed over to the Chief Migration Officer in a ceremony attended by the Deputy Prime Minister.

The Minister for International Security, who has championed this project, has highlighted that this technology will assist government agencies in safeguarding the nation.

NID a let down for job seekers

With the issue of National Identification (NID) card a never ending story in the country, sadly many young people have missed out on a job opportunity.

The RPNGC recruitment process is currently underway at the Rita Flynn court in Port Moresby.

Unsuccessful applicants have called on concerned authorities in improving the turnaround time in processing of NID and police clearance report. They said delay for months and years have resulted in shortcut dealings that comes at a cost.

Ok Tedi supports roll out of NID

The work is being completed under an MOU signed in July 2018 between Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) and PNG Civil and Identity Registry (PNGCIR), sponsored by Minister Richard Maru.

A team comprising OTML Community Relations officers, eight PNGCIR registration and data entry supervisors, and local casuals completed one month’s training on the NID registration and data processes.

They then commenced a six-month trial covering employees and residents of Tabubil Township, Mine Area Landowners and 24 CMCA communities along the Tabubil – Kiunga Highway, at a cost of K730,000.
