Equipment to improve Tokua airport security

The National Airport Corporation (NAC), through a statement, has confirmed the installation of new equipment to replace the existing old and aging equipment and introduces primary personnel and check-bag screening at the entrance to the terminal facility.

New-look Tari airport to open

In a statement, National Airports Corporation (NAC) managing director Joseph Kintau said, “The official opening signifies the completion of the K79.24 million Tari Airport Project, which was constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Gansu Mechanized Construction Engineering Co. Ltd Joint Venture under the Civil Aviation Development Investment Program (CADIP).”

Minister calls for audit into NAC

He made this statement yesterday (December 12) while announcing the appointment of Tupiri as Acting MD.

“Some of the tasks and responsibilities he will undertake is to come up with Terms of Reference (TOR) to now seek a financial institution to come and conduct a full audit of NAC.

“I need to know where we are exactly,” the minister added.

Minister Schnaubelt said he will formally announce to the public on NAC’s status after the audit process is done. 

Schnaubelt announce Tupiri appointment

Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation Walter Schnaubelt formally announced Tupiri’s appointment on Monday December 12, 2022.

Schnaubelt said Tupiri will be Acting MD for the next three months, while the position is being advertised.

“I as the Minister made the decision putting a MD in place for an interim period of 3 months to give us enough time to call for expression of interest.

“Joseph Tupiri is no stranger to NAC. In his previous role, he was in the management capacity as MD prior to his exit.

Commercial focus vital for national airports

The National Airport Corporation (NAC) is responsible for the provision, maintenance and development of 22 designated national airports. Over the years, the emphasis in managing these airports has been on an investment program to ensure the airports are developed to meet internationally acceptable safety and security standards. However, this has come at a cost of limited attention to operational efficiency and efficient pricing of airport services. 

PNG Air suspends Wapenamanda flights

PNG Air flight area being suspended indefinitely, until such time the airline can determine the safe operations of services back into the province.

Customers with existing tickets can rebook or reroute at no further cost.

Last week, Air Niugini suspended flights into Wapenamanda. 

Photos supplied to this newsroom by security forces stationed there showed that unidentified persons had spilt oil and thrown broken bottles over parts of the airport runway, making it dangerous for an aircraft to land.

ABD and NAC agree to airport upgrade

 

The “transaction advisory services agreement” was signed last Thursday and will see the development of the new airport feature through a public-private partnership (PPP).

Marcelo Minc, ADB Country Director for PNG says “ADB has been a key development partner to NAC for several years through the landmark Civil Aviation Development Investment Program.”

Security detail discussed in preparation of major events

The workshop is about coordination between all security agencies based at the Jacksons Airport

Security personnel from different stakeholder agencies like CASA, Police, National Airport Corporation (NAC), Air Niugini security as well as other security agents who are based at the airport all took part in the one day workshop.

The training covered how and which stakeholder would play a lead role in security and protection of the major events that PNG will be hosting in the city.

NAC Board challenged to address staff welfare

Minister for Minister for Civil Aviation Davis Steven says he is passionate about making sure that NAC becomes an employer of choice.

Steven said staff welfare is vital in the daily operations of the organisation.

He said NAC must become an employer that is proud to say that its staff from the top to the bottom is happy to be part of this organisation.

Steven also challenged the board to look into establishing and improving rural airstrips to connect the disconnected communities.

NAC to ensure airport facilities meet APEC expectations

Minister for Civil Aviation Davis Steven says the current preparations for 2018 APEC Summit are underway and expectations on the civil aviation sector are already been noted.

Steven said NAC is managing our gateway particularly the international terminal and the landing facilities.

In 2010, the Canadian firm Jacobs Consulting, completed a 20-year master plan for Port Moresby Airport.

The Master Plan suggested two options for long term International Terminal building.
