Buying-point Boosts Economic Activity

Perpetual Tagor of the Namatanai Local Level Government said women no longer have to sit long hours at the market place to sell their garden produce. 

“Mothers have taken a keen interest in gardening and are working hard to sell their garden food and nowadays mothers have money in their pockets. They also have bank cards and can use EFTPoS machine unlike before,” she added. 

Namatanai District Development Authority Administrator, Neville Tomon said since the initiative started in 2019, women have been empowered economically.

NA dominates LLG presidential elections

The five Local Level Government seats that NA candidates won include Sentral Niu Ailan, Namatanai Rural, Nimamar, Matalai and Konoagil while it lost remote Tanir LLG to a PPP candidate.

AC1 improvements boost Lihir production

The improvements were implemented on eight agitator assemblies in AC1 which enabled an extended operating campaign.

The agitator assemblies were removed during a major shutdown in June 2017 and replaced with a trial modified agitator blade assembly design that had been developed with the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and paint modelling.

New classroom for Pulpulu Elementary School

The new double classroom was built at a cost of over K20,000 from a counterpart funding between the Matalai LLG (K10,000) and Walters Farming Association (WFA).

WFA chief executive officer Walter Schnaubelt, accompanied by various LLG presidents of Namatanai district, including Matalai, Tanir, Namatanai Rural and Sentral Niu Ailan, converged at Titigo Primary School to witness the official opening.
