Namah Lauds Treasurer

Namah said we are in the 21st century and such bills need to be reviewed and amended to confirm with the changing environment.

He emphasized that Government's institutions must be friendly to the people and Central Bank is one such.

The Opposition Leader also commended the Treasurer for doing his best to bring the amendment to the floor of Parliament for review.

The amendment to the Central Bank Bill will now see the reduced number of board members from 11 to a manageable 9 members.

Namah On Power Of Mercy

In a statement, Mr Namah appealed to PM Marape to reconsider directing the Attorney General and Secretary for Justice, Dr Eric Kwa in regards to the power of mercy decision and address the law and order problems in the country that are spiraling out of control instead.

The Opposition Leader stated that the country has a problem with many known criminals who have not been brought to justice.

Namah: No Need For Lockdown

He is concerned that his people of Vanimo Green River electorate, which borders Indonesia, are dead against lockdowns as it will cripple their livelihood, businesses and affect their children’s education.

According to the National Control Centre, two border provinces, Western and West Sepik including Easter Highlands Province are under lockdown as of yesterday.

“COVID-19 has been present in Papua New Guinea for two years now but it is not decimating the population as predicted by our doomsayers.

Address security issues: Namah

Mr Namah, called for an early recall of Parliament for a bipartisan Parliamentary approach to a “national crisis that has clearly moved beyond politics”.

He said in a democratic state, people within clearly defined boundaries come together to pledge their loyalty, resources and energies to protect themselves and promote their common interests.

“The security of this nation is placed in certain agencies such as the police, defense force, intelligence-gathering agencies and the judicial system.

Uplift lockdown, says Namah

Namah said lockdowns are killing the economy, putting people out of work and shutting down businesses.

“Unless the government lifts lockdown immediately, it will be creating a social and economic disaster far worse than the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“Lockdowns are encouraging criminal activities and disrupting the education of a generation of children. The Pandemic Act has given the Prime Minister and the Controller unbridled powers,” Said Namah.
