'Shield' actor Michael Jace convicted of wife's murder

A jury of six women and six men deliberated about two hours before finding Jace, 53, guilty of second-degree murder in the May 19, 2014, death of April Jace, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Jurors also found true the special allegation that Jace used a firearm.

Jace faces up to 40 years to life in prison at his sentencing, scheduled for June 10.

Ruling on Two-Mile armed hold up this week

Billy Dim, 22 of Sumae village, Daru, Western Province, will return to court on Friday (April 8) where the court will make a ruling into his case. He remains in custody at Bomana till then.

He was arrested on Nov 10 last year for allegedly causing unlawful wounding to a female IT student from the Tafe College. Dim and three other accomplices staged an armed hold up using bush knives.

Murder suspects arrested

Central police Commander Laimo Asi tells Loop PNG that the murders occurred at Edevu and Musa block at Brown river.

Asi says that the man involved in the killing of a local at Musa block on Easter Friday was arrested and charged yesterday with wilful murder.

The suspect had been drinking with the victim and lured him to some nearby bushes and slit his throat.

Both the suspect and the victim were from Koari.

Meantime, at Edevu a man killed his brother-in-law in relation to a family dispute that was taken out of context.

Aki back in court tomorrow

From the Western Highlands Province, Aki was arrested  on Tuesday and charged with the wilful murder of his wife (name withheld).

He is being detained at the Boroko Police station awaiting his first court appearance over allegations he murdered his wife in Port Moresby.

It is alleged he assaulted her at the Kone Tigers oval in the view of onlookers following an argument on Christmas Eve.

This assault left her with serious life-threatening injuries that saw her admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Port Moresby General Hospital.

Mother and children in court for murder case

The woman, (all names with-held due to a minor involved in case) appeared before Magistrate Gerry Unjo with her 20 year old daughter, 23 year old son, and a 17 year son (the minor) along with her 25 year old son-in-law from Jiwaka Province.

All five were arrested and charged with one count of willful murder on April 2 this year at Kerema town in the Gulf Province.

It is alleged they were involved in the unlawful killing of Thomas Maroa Posou on February 7 this year at, Kerema town.

Man to stand trial for murdering brother

 Martin Paul Kume was committed to stand trial for wilfully and unlawfully murdering his younger brother (Tony Paul) at Erima in Port Moresby on February 3 this year. 

It is alleged Kume killed his brother after both men had an argument over a string bilum at their family home.

The committal court found there was enough evidence against the accused to warrant his committal for trial.

Magistrate Cosmos Bidar said Kume used a kitchen knife and stabbed his brother on the left side of his neck and back which affected one of his main arteries.

Murders shock post-eruptions community

The gruesome incident which spanned more than two hours last night started when a young man apparently went berserk and started hacking people with a bush knife.

The young man then went on to chop up a woman believed to be his first cousin and one of her children, a young girl of  about 10 years old. Two of her children managed to escape with their lives.

Drug-affected man kills 2, police say

Police reported that between 12am and 2am this morning there were three people killed at Gelegele resettlement ward, the alleged assailant and two victimsS.

The suspect,, a young man was believed to have  been under the influence of drugs and reportedly attacked and killed his sister and three year old niece.

Eye witnesses reported to police that the suspect was seen praying aloud and singing Christian worship songs before he went into an uncontrollable mood and and started attacking people with a knife.

Almost 40 years since the killing of the five journalists in Timor-Leste, Shirley Shackleton fears the appointment of retired lieutenant-general Sutiyoso has dashed hopes of her husband's remains ever being returned.

The 70-year-old Sutiyoso, who President Joko Widodo named in June as the new chief of the Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN), was an army captain in charge of a special forces unit in East Timor when the newsmen were killed on October 16, 1975.

Morgan Freeman's granddaughter stabbed to death in New York

An NYPD rep told E! News that the killing took place early on Sunday. She was found with multiple stab wounds on her torso on a street in Harlem and taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A 30-year-old man was detained at the scene and later taken to another medical center. His identity has not been released and no charges have been filed. Police are still investigating the incident.
