Murder, robbery suspect apprehended

The NCD-Central Command reported that the suspect, Thomas Inaro (JUX) who is from Gora village, Afore District of Northern Province, resides at ATS Second Block.

“This suspect was involved in a robbery at Westpac-Waigani which then led to the murder of an innocent male from Southern Highlands Province about two weeks ago,” said police.

“He was the one who pulled the trigger and his accomplices robbed the deceased’s money and they all escaped at that time.”

Murder suspect rearrested in surprise raid

Provincial Police Commander Laimo Asi said the suspect, from Tapini, had escaped from police custody earlier this year for murdering his wife, and was hiding in the house.

“Just as well we conducted the unexpected raid and caught them off guard,” stated the PPC.

Police also arrested a man for possessing an unlicensed firearm.

They attained a search warrant to search the offender’s home and the firearm was confiscated.

Meanwhile, Asi said the election operations are progressing well and will continue into the polling period.

Officer on trial for aiding murder suspect escape

Stanley Tempon also known by the name Soti from Kindeng village in the Anglip District, Jiwaka Province will appear for listing in the National Court on Feb 20.

Senior Committal Court Magistrate Mekeo Gauli on Thursday gave his ruling in the case against Tempon.

Tempon was alleged to have aided a murder suspect escape custody from the Boroko Police station on March 10, 2016. He is alleged to have done so with another man, Tony Leo.

He was arrested and charged with willfully permitting a murder suspect to escape from custody on July 29,2016.

Murder suspect, trial witness mistakenly put in same cell

The men weren't handcuffed when the guard put them in a cell during a break in the trial this week, and an investigation will be conducted on how it happened, Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish told The Lima News. 

He said authorities broke up the altercation within two minutes, and the men suffered only minor injuries.
