Morobe Show days away

The show will take place on November 4th-5th at the Lae Showgrounds.

Residents in Lae have already started buying tickets, with the presold prices at K12 for children under 12 years of age and K17 for adults. Children under 2 years old are free.

For the gate price, for both Saturday and Sunday, tickets for adults are selling at K15 and children are K12.

For gold pass, adult tickets are going for K125 per head, gold pass child is K50 and gold pass family is K250. The latter includes two adults and three children under 12.

Momase Law & Order consultations

The committee met with community leaders from within Lae City's settlements, and ward counsellors from Morobe Province who aired their views on growing unemployment-related issues forcing the youth to turn to crime.

They appealed to committee members to enforce tougher laws on offenders, and furthermore, suggested they get the youth involved in agricultural activities.

The public consultations were prompted by the growing law and order issues in the country.

FPDA observes World Food Day in Erap

The day commemorates the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945.

The theme for this year is 'Water is Life, Water is Food. Leave No One Behind'.

Water is essential to life on Earth. It covers the majority of the Earth's surface, makes up over 50% of our bodies, produces our food, and supports livelihoods. 

But this precious resource is not infinite. People world over must not take it for granted. According to the UN FAO, what we eat, and how that food is produced, all affect water.

Simbu group still missing

The 14 ELC East Simbu District delegates were on their way to attend the 21st National Youth Conference on Tuesday, September 26th, when the boat they were travelling in went missing.

ELCPNG Head Bishop, Reverend Dr Jack Urame, said they were informed of the mishap on Thursday, September 28th, where they quickly liaised with the relevant authorities to conduct a search.

Vehicle for community work

The vehicle was released to carry on the work of the people in areas that are often neglected and not taken seriously as important.

Nawaeb MP Theo Pelgen said the vehicle is multi-purpose since it can cater for school children as well.

“Nawaeb rural students attending the high and secondary school will be transported when on holidays from a designated point of pick up,” he said.

“This is intended to relieve the parents of burden to transport them to and from school holiday period, “he said

Assessment on collapsed Busu Bridge

On Saturday, October 7th, the Busu Bridge collapsed while portions of the Wain-Erap roads had landslips and flooding.

Up at Nabak Highway, parts of the road from Bumburum Bridge were cut off by flooded waters.

Nawaeb MP, Theo Pelgen, immediately sent the Nawaeb district technical team and National Works & Highways engineers to assess the situation.

“This week we intend to gather assessment reports and work towards a plan to mobilise machinery to carry out repair work and upgrade of access roads.”

Rosso warns settlers

This is the message from Lae MP and Deputy Prime Minister, John Rosso, after he was briefed on the ethnic clash at Nawaeb Block, in Lae, which has claimed the lives of two people and caused extensive damage to properties.

It is believed fighting started early this week after an armed holdup.

“Anyone instigating ethnic violence, that settlement will be demolished and evicted,” Rosso said.

“You want to come to Lae, you have to live and abide by the laws of this city and abide by the laws blo mipla ol Morobe.

LCA takes over stadium management

A lease agreement was signed today at the outdoor stadium between the Lae City Authority chief executive officer, Robin Calistus, and the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation CEO, Albert Veratau.

Member for Lae and Deputy Prime Minister, John Rosso, has always stressed on restoring Lae to its glory days; the days when families can enjoy the city and its benefits without fearing for their safety.

Redeveloped Nadzab airport to be opened

The event is expected to start at 11 am, and will be attended by Prime Minister James Marape, Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso, Morobe Governor Luther Wenge, Huon Gulf MP, Jason Peter, Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Walter Schnaubelt, and chief representative from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Hideaki Matsuoka.

The K750 million Nadzab Airport Redevelopment Project is jointly funded by the Japanese Overseas Development concessional loan (ODA loan) and the Government of Papua New Guinea through budgetary allocation.
