COUNTING: Progressive results for Moresby West seat: After Count 110

COUNTING: Count 65 is now in progress for Moresby North East

COUNTING: Moresby North East Update- after Count 1

This is after a week of delay in counting for the electorate.

The first preliminary results show after count 1;

John Kaupa leads with 92 votes followed by Joetintin Sina Saraga on 81 votes.

Brian Kombe is in third place with 21 votes, Andrew Mald is running fourth with 20 votes and Joel Eremugo is in fifth place with 19 votes.

There were 131 votes cast, with 21 informal and 292 allowable votes.

Meantime counting will still progress with the next five boxes for the electorate.

COUNTING: Moresby North East counting begins

Officials and scrutineers took to their seats after being checked and signed into the venue.

The container containing the ballot boxes was opened and the first six ballot boxes for Ward 5 (Korobosea) were brought into the counting venue.

Although there are still some confusion with the counting schedule for the officials, counting will still go ahead tonight.

Police are seen to be on high alert as counting progresses late into the night.

Count one is currently in motion and results will be posted once the count is completed and tallied.

Moresby North East has four Wards. 

Polling for the Moresby North East Open Electorate is for one day only – Tuesday, June 27.

VIDEO: Youths take ownership in Moresby North East

Thomas Rango the Returning Officer for the Moresby North East highlighted the good job carried out by youths to help control the crowds at the nomination site at the Jack Pidik oval.

The youths from the Ward five area have taken the ownership to help the electoral officers to facilitate for the nomination process.

Over thirty candidates have come and gone filing nominations to contest the Moresby North East Seat over the past week.

Amaiu nominates to retain Moresby North East seat

Amaiu is contesting under the Peoples National Congress Party and was the 29th candidate to nominate for the Moresby North East seat.

Amaiu said after his nomination that he is confident to retain the seat and has performed in the last four years.

“Actions speak louder than words and we have very good contenders for the seat.

“I am very confident because I have worked very hard in the last four years to maintain the people’s confidence.

“I have given water to communities and empowered them through their associations.

Young Okuk nominates for Moresby North East

The name Okuk first entered the corridors of Parliament in 1972 when firebrand, vocal and forthright Chimbu politician, Iambakey Okuk was voted in.

Later knighted, Sir Iambakey was noted for his forthright approach to issues of local and national importance and left a lasting legacy to the type of leadership, power and charisma he exuded.

However, the name had  disappeared from the political scene until Sir Iambakey’s  late son Tangil also contested in Chimbu but was not successful.

City MP pumps strongly on water supply

A majority of his electorate constituents live in settlements and the first term MP is adamant all must have water piped and running to their areas before the next election.

During the launching of water connection to Turf Club settlers at 9 mile, outside Port Moresby, Amaiu revealed that the project is the district’s 21st  water project and over K8 million had been spent so far.

Eda Ranu commercial manager Paul Gore challenged the settlers to keep their part of the deal to let water flow into the area and also encouraged them to save water in this dry season.
