Momote refurbished airport’s first anniversary

The facility funded by the PNG Government in partnership with the Asian Development Bank under Civil Aviation Development Investment Program (CADIP-1).

The new and rehabilitated facilities included;

Manus gears up for airport upgrade opening

The upgrade works on the airport includes extension of airport runway from 1, 810 meters to 2, 010 meters, a new modernize terminal and market facility.

The extension of the runway will now allow B737-800 flights into Momote airport. 

The new terminal is a unique architectural structure resembling the stingray, a common fish found in the waters of Manus.

The airport is funded under the Asian Development Bank's Multi-Trenche Financing facility at a cost of K101.9 million.

Momote Airport Upgrade

This project is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

The new facility will include, a VIP lounge, a spacious departure lounge that will cater for 139 seats, passenger check-in counters, and arrival lounge with conveyor belt for baggage.

To add to that will be the baggage screening machines, close circuit camera TV (CCTVs), a kiosk and toilet plus others.

The terminal design resembles a stingray, a cartilaginous fish common in the Manus Province.

Locals sabotage flight operations into Momote

Police in Manus told Loop PNG today, two men from the Rapatona LLG removed the office keys from Enock Kapet who is the safety officer, affecting flight operations into the airport because they were not happy with the awarding of the contract for the airport redevelopment.

Acting Provincial Police Commander, Senior Inspector David Yapu said the incident took place last Friday, March 31 which saw flights affected for three days.

Manus infrastructure better protected from the sea

The new sea wall will help protect this vital economic artery from erosion and flood damage caused by waves and high tides and facilitates all weather access. The construction of this sea wall forms part of Australia’s ongoing project to upgrade and reseal the road from Momote Airport to Lorengau Town.
