Team PNG Departs For Pacific Mini Games

Concerns due to COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the General Management Team to opt against a formal farewell reception.

The team is taking a contingent of 119 made up of 85 athletes and 34 officials including the General Management Team.

Team PNG will take part in five sports from the nine on offer and are expected to perform very strongly at this event.

Team Athletics makes up the bulk of the contingent with 37 athletes and seven team officials, followed by Va’a with 27 athletes and four team officials.

From this afternoon's tally, New Caledonia has 34 Gold medals , PNG is in second place with 18.

Fiji and Samoa both have 16 while Vanuatu has 11.

PNG leads with 11 Gold and 1 Silver, Fiji is in second place with 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 9 Bronze.

Solomon Islands, Samoa both have 3 Gold and 3 Silver medals.

Whilst Marshall Islands has won 3 Gold so far in the competition.

3x3 basketball medal for PNG?

Riding off their win from the recently concluded Melanesian basketball championships, the PNG men and women’s teams are set for the challenge.

The Pacific Games Council delightedly announced the inclusion of 3×3 Basketball for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu; there is no doubt that this exciting new format will be a big hit in the Pacific and at the Games in December, stated Pacific Games Council CEO Andrew Minogue.
