Standardize govt services

Kumung made this statement at the recent National Social Accountability Summit.

He said the department aims to improve service delivery by aligning service delivery by developing a new structure and plan. This will see the department of National Planning and Monitoring working in partnership with DPLGA.

Accountability Issues Highlighted

He said there are a lot of challenges in the systems that state government agencies are tasked to administer.

The Deputy Secretary also said that the government has in place good laws and policies. There are structured plans in place. However, implementation is key.

“The greatest challenge is how can we ensure we effectively and prudently administer the resources that are within our, within the availability of diff sectors resource that are given to them which they can use to ensure this plan is actually implemented and delivered.”

New management for NSO and PNG NID

Michael Kumung has been appointed to head the NSO vacating the role of Registrar General of the PNG Civil and Identity Registry (PNG CIR).

The Minister also announced the appointment of Noel Mobiha to head the PNG NID Project.

Minister Maru announced the appointments today in Port Moresby saying he is confident in the appointments made.

Maru says since Kumung’s appointment as Acting Registrar General in October 2017, there have been improvements to the integrity of the NID Registration process.

And he is confident Kumung can rejuvenate the NSO.

Jiwaka aims to register entire populace

Kumung said this during the opening of the Jiwaka Provincial NID Office in Banz on Monday.

He said the NID program was critical so that the government can properly plan developments in the Province.

The launching was attended by Minister for National Planning & Monitoring, Richard Maru.

The small township of Banz came alive yesterday in song and dance as delegates for the opening arrived, which included Jiwaka Governor Dr. William Tongamp and South Anglimp MP, Joe Kuli.

NID update

Of this number, 200,380 NID cards have been printed and issued.

These figures were revealed yesterday during a presentation to Members of Parliament by Acting Registrar, Michael Kumung, at Parliament.

It was also an opportunity for MP’s to register for their NID Cards.

According to the figures, 88,618 births (below 18) have been registered, 277,212 births (over 18) and NIDs registered and another pending of 57,717.

The figures also revealed that all provinces have begun except the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Jiwaka and West Sepik Province.
