Cancer A Global Fight, says Doctor

Cancer Foundation’s Deputy Chair and PNG Women Doctors Association President, Dr. Lynda Sirigoi was invited to speak at a medical fundraising dinner for young Ugava Tau and spoke on the impact of cancer on families and the work of the Cancer Foundation.

Also as a family Physician, she said last year there was a record of about 10 million deaths making it an ongoing issue the world over.

Medical Appeal For Young Ugava

However, a good number of childhood cancers if recognized and treated early have good outcomes. In November 2021, 12-year-old Ugava was diagnosed with Osteogenic Secoma or bone cancer and by December, that year was admitted to the Port Moresby General Hospital’s children’s oncology ward under the care of Dr. Gwenda Anga and her team.

Young Ugava’s family hosted a Dine and Wine event on Saturday, 19th of February to raise funds for treatment in Brisbane, Australia while also raising awareness on childhood cancer in the country.

The Oceania Bible College says Bernard Nema, from Western Highlands Province, was diagnosed with valvular heart disease at the Sir Buri Kidu Heart Institute Inc, Port Moresby.

“His life is at stake, with a fifty-fifty chance of surviving for the next six to nine months,” states members of the college.

Churches, Christians and the general public are asked to help save the life of a future servant of God.

Nema, who graduated from the University of Technology with a physics degree, would need K60,000 to cover for his medical bills.
