Media Development Initiative (MDI)

Women In Media

The purpose is for the creation of an initiative called Women In Media. Currently the Media Council has back tracked in its functions and roles and is trying to do a huge overhaul of its administration in order to bounce back in assuming its principal role again.

Project Manager of MDI, Joys Eggins, states that in order for the Council to carry out its run its agendas, there has to be a formal structure in place to achieve its goals.

MDI on work plan for media

PNG Media Council and the United Nations Office invited the MDI as a partner in harnessing the work of media in the country.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation International Development (ABCID) Team Leader, Hare Haro spoke about MDI and the progress over the years in PNG.

“MDI has a work plan that has been reviewed annually, our current work plan runs up until June 2023, we will be going into a process of reviewing that, reaching out to Media to see what else needs to be included going forward.

Media training for locals in Talasea

This is to help them understand the role of media and how it can be used as a platform for communicating their stories and discussing important national issues.

The two-day workshop was held in Kimbe by the Media Development Initiative (MDI), covering basic news writing, setting up and participating in news interviews, social media literacy and understanding the power of media to shape public debate.
