As over 100,000 fans again flocked to TPC Scottsdale for the "greatest show on turf", Kuchar stole the first round headlines with a bogey-free effort on his first appearance on the PGA Tour of 2017 following a seven-week break.

Kuchar got off to the ideal start as he birdied the first and rolled in a putt of over 30 feet for another gain at the second, and he safely parred the next eight holes before breaking the run with a birdie at the 11th.

Davis Love III announced three of his four Ryder Cup picks on Monday, as Rickie Fowler, Kuchar and J.B. Holmes heard their names called during the news conference.

But one spot remains up for grabs and Kuchar thinks he has the answer.

Speaking in an interview on Golf Channel, Kuchar said he has "heard" Woods may receive the final captain's pick despite his status as a vice-captain.

"I heard even possibly, this is hearsay, but heard maybe even Tiger Woods could potentially be a pick," he said following the news conference.
