Simple motor vehicle rule saves driver

The driver was driving along the Poreporena Freeway in Port Moresby when his truck, laden with sand, overturned.

According to St John Ambulance Chief Officer Matt Cannon, who was at the scene when interviewed by Loop PNG, the driver was lucky because he put on his seatbelt.

Though the driver sustained minor injuries, the truck suffered the brunt of the accident.

Cannon is appealing to all drivers to at least adhere to simple vehicle and traffic rules and be responsible when driving.

The cause of the accident is yet to be made known.

HB Fire: Four treated by St John Ambulance

Whilst confirmed reports have yet to come in from the Fire service and Police, Loop PNG managed to get some information from St John Ambulance staff who are currently on site at the village.

Confirming the fire, Chief Fire Officer for St John Ambulance, Matt Cannon says that so far his officers have dealt four patients.

Three villagers sustained burn injuries to their hands and feet and a fire officer needed to be treated for smoke inhalation and dehydration.

St John’s Ambulance aims to raise much needed funds

The ball has been held for a number of years to raise money towards helping the service meet emergency health needs of Port Moresby, National Capital District and Central Province residents.

This year, the service aims to raise K290, 000 which will go towards purchasing two new ambulances with full emergency fit out, including lights and sirens.

Matt Cannon, Advisor to St John Ambulance Service said the demand for emergency ambulance is increasing and with lack of funding from the government, the service now relies on the assistance of the community.
