Apple Watch help save teen's life

Having suffered chest and back pain following a football training session, Massachusetts resident Paul Houle used his Apple Watch to keep tabs on his heart rate.

With the wearable revealing his vital signs remained at an alarmingly high 145bpm for two hours after practice, Houle went to hospital where he was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis - a condition triggered by exercise that can cause muscles to deteriorate and seep proteins.

Mandela's grandson arrested for alleged rape in South Africa

Mbuso Mandela, 24, is in police custody and will appear in a Johannesburg magistrates court on Friday for a bail hearing, said police spokeswoman Brig. Mashadi Selepe. He appeared briefly in court Monday when he was charged with rape.

The rape allegedly took place at a restaurant in Greenside, a Johannesburg suburb, on Aug. 7, Selepe said. The matter was reported to police a week later and Mandela was arrested last Saturday, she said.

4 die in apparent carbon monoxide poisoning

The Oxford County Sheriff's Department says the bodies of two men and two women between the ages of 18 and 22 were found Friday night at a cabin in Byron. Family members found the victims. Their names were not immediately released.

WCVB-TV  in Boston reports that the cabin did not have electricity and there was a generator in the basement. Authorities say the generator apparently had been in operation before running out of gas.

     

Text, phone hotlines created for tips on dead girl's ID

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley, State Police Superintendent Col. Richard McKeon and Winthrop Police Chief Terence Delehanty announced the new measures Wednesday.

"Someone knows her. To that person, we know that for whatever reason you have not come forward yet. But surely you know the right thing to do," McKeon said. "Examine your conscience and look into your heart and do the right thing for this little girl."

Man charged with threatening Obama's life in online post

Andrew O'Keefe, of Mansfield, has been charged with a felony count of posting an online threat against the president.

According to court documents, when law enforcement officers tried to interview O'Keefe regarding the May 13 posting, he refused to speak with officers outside his home. Authorities say more than 100 weapons were found at his home and in his vehicle, including swords, double-edged knives, hatchets and spears.

Police get tips on girl found dead in bag in Boston Harbour

State police spokesman David Procopio tells The Boston Globe that people have provided information on other missing children, too.

Officials released the image Thursday in an attempt to generate clues about the girl's identity, which remains unknown.

Officials believe the brown-haired, brown-eyed girl was about 4 years old. Her body was found June 25 on Deer Island inside a plastic bag that also contained a black and white zebra-print blanket.
