Richard Maru said they would like the Department of Works to complete the work by the end of September, 2021.

Mr Maru said this allows them to progress with the official opening of the Sepik Chicken, Grain and Cocoa Innovation Project in October this year.

The MP said he visited the farm recently, and reports that it is on track to deliver its first chicken meat to the market, in the second week of June.

He also said finishing touches to the ‘Haus Kill’ and hatchery are progressing well.

Mr Maru expect it to the completed by the end of July.

Kubalia Water Project launched

The project will also include a new separate water supply system for Suandogum Village.  

This was followed by a visit to Rufundogum Village where the MP introduced the people to the engineering team from the Adventist Development and Relief Agency or ADRA, who are partnering with the YSDDA to deliver the projects.

ADRA will commence the engineering design work on the new Rofundogum Village Water Supply System.

Deadline for Procurement Committees issued

According to Chief executive officer of the National Procurement Commission Simon Bole, said, “The NPC Board has issued a deadline until 30 June this year for all districts and provinces to establish their respective procurement committees so it is up to the provinces and districts to contact NPC and facilitate their committee establishment.”

Mr Bole said to date NPC has successfully established procurement committees in 13 provinces and 41 districts.

PNG to ‘deepen and widen’ trade deal with Europe

In a media conference today, Maru said this is to cover additional products beyond canned tuna and make provision for accession of additional new members within the Pacific ACP group to join  iEPA.

Maru said he had fruitful talks with the European Union (EU) Commissioner for Trade, Madam Cecilia Malmstrom after attending the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Trade Ministers meeting in Brussels, Belgium on June 26. 

Minister Maru was accompanied by PNG Ambassador to EU, Joshua Kalinoe and Trade, Commerce and Industry Secretary, John Andrias.
